Parking ticket amnesty to continue through Sept. 15
TROY, N.Y. » Troy Mayor Patrick Madden announced the City’s Parking Ticket Amnesty program will continue through Sept. 15. The amnesty program offers a one-time reduction on open parking violations issued by the City of Troy.
Those with outstanding parking tickets that qualify for the amnesty program will receive a letter via mail with instructions regarding payment options.
“This summer’s parking ticket amnesty program provides individuals a chance to resolve previously issued unpaid violations and penalty fees at a reduced rate. This program will assist the City recover lost revenue at no additional cost to taxpayers,” Madden stated.
“We encourage those with outstanding parking tickets to take advantage of this limited opportunity and watch for instructions arriving by mail in the coming days,” Madden added.
Troy City Council President Carmella Mantello calls the program a win-win for the city and folks who owe money on outstanding tickets.
“Four-years-ago I had discovered over $1 million of unpaid parking tickets, and at that time the City Council passed a Parking Ticket Amnesty Program which was a successful program,” Mantello stated.
“Fast forward to today, there are approximately $900,000 of unpaid parking tickets. I am pleased to work with the Mayor and administration where last week the City Council unanimously passed the Parking Ticket Amnesty Program beginning Aug. 1 through Sept. 15 at a reduced rate. Letters will be sent out to individuals who qualify,” Mantello noted on the unanimously passed legislation at the July 23 City Council meeting
T”his is a win-win! Individuals who owe outstanding parking tickets will be getting a break and the city will capture needed revenues,” Mantello added.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, City Hall remains closed to the public. All payments for tickets which qualify under the amnesty program must be made online – www.parkingticketassist.com/troy — or by mail after Aug. 1. All payments received will be accepted in full satisfaction for the above referenced open parking tickets.
After this time period, penalties will be re-instituted by the city, and all appropriate enforcement and collection procedures will be implemented. .
