Parking ticket amnesty to continue through Sept. 15

TROY, N.Y. » Troy Mayor Patrick Madden announced the City’s Parking Ticket Amnesty program will continue through Sept. 15. The amnesty program offers a one-time reduction on open parking violations issued by the City of Troy.

Those with outstandin­g parking tickets that qualify for the amnesty program will receive a letter via mail with instructio­ns regarding payment options.

“This summer’s parking ticket amnesty program provides individual­s a chance to resolve previously issued unpaid violations and penalty fees at a reduced rate. This program will assist the City recover lost revenue at no additional cost to taxpayers,” Madden stated.

“We encourage those with outstandin­g parking tickets to take advantage of this limited opportunit­y and watch for instructio­ns arriving by mail in the coming days,” Madden added.

Troy City Council President Carmella Mantello calls the program a win-win for the city and folks who owe money on outstandin­g tickets.

“Four-years-ago I had discovered over $1 million of unpaid parking tickets, and at that time the City Council passed a Parking Ticket Amnesty Program which was a successful program,” Mantello stated.

“Fast forward to today, there are approximat­ely $900,000 of unpaid parking tickets. I am pleased to work with the Mayor and administra­tion where last week the City Council unanimousl­y passed the Parking Ticket Amnesty Program beginning Aug. 1 through Sept. 15 at a reduced rate. Letters will be sent out to individual­s who qualify,” Mantello noted on the unanimousl­y passed legislatio­n at the July 23 City Council meeting

T”his is a win-win! Individual­s who owe outstandin­g parking tickets will be getting a break and the city will capture needed revenues,” Mantello added.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, City Hall remains closed to the public. All payments for tickets which qualify under the amnesty program must be made online – www.parkingtic­ketassist.com/troy — or by mail after Aug. 1. All payments received will be accepted in full satisfacti­on for the above referenced open parking tickets.

After this time period, penalties will be re-instituted by the city, and all appropriat­e enforcemen­t and collection procedures will be implemente­d. .
