Elizabeth hopes that her paintings can serve as a window into the treasures we still have, and also perhaps as a call to protect those we are poised to lose. VIRTUAL GALA: It is with great regret that due to the unprecedented global health crisis, we have decided to cancel the National Museum of Dance Square Dance! Gala scheduled for Saturday, August 8, 2020. The cancellation of the Gala, our most important fundraiser of the year, will have a substantial impact on our financial stability. However, we strongly believe this decision is in the best interest of our community’s health and well-being. In lieu of the Square Dance! Gala, we will be hosting a Virtual Gala as a way for our friends and patrons to support the Museum at this highly uncertain time. We are asking you to consider a donation for our Virtual Gala at the same level you would have contributed for our Square Dance! Gala. Your gift to the Virtual Gala is 100% tax-deductible as allowed by law. On the evening of Saturday, August 8, 2020 we will send Virtual Gala sponsors a link via email with a special video message of gratitude from our President and Director, Michele Riggi, as well as Museum highlights from the past year. We need your help now more than ever and thank you for your support of the National Museum of Dance at this very critical moment. Stay safe and stay well. Masks will be required to enter, and visitors are required to take proper social distancing precautions while on the boat and inside the lighthouse. Visitors will be required to take a covid symptom survey as well. Staff will regularly clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces throughout the day. Adult tickets are $25and Children under 12are $15(cash only unless ordered online). This includes transportation. Picnic tables are available for those who wish to bring lunch. As visitors arrive at the lighthouse, they climb the metal stairs and enter the interior of the lighthouse where they are welcomed by tour guides or docents. Emily was the daughter of Emil Brunner, the last civilian lighthouse keeper, who served as keeper from 1930to 1949. The Brunner family lived at the lighthouse during much of the 1930s before moving to Athens. Son Robert, was born on the lighthouse. Until 2015, Emily was often at tours and able to regale visitors with many colorful tales of life on the lighthouse. Sadly, Emily and her brother Bob have recently passed away. The tour gives you the opportunity to learn about the important role the Hudson River played in the development of the Upper Hudson River towns, and how the lighthouse made navigation safe along the river to allow development to take place. For more about the history and preservation of the lighthouse, please visit the website hudsonathenslighthouse.org. Please check our FaceBook page or call us if you have specific questions that day. Reservations are recommended and can be made online at HudsonCruises.com or by calling (888) 766-1844.
