Gballoi (Ghanaian drum and dance ensemble). All events are free, open to all, and start at noon in a new location at The Downtowner parking lot, 413Broadwa­y in Saratoga Springs. We will take plenty of precaution­s to keep people safe: it will be outside, we will ensure social distance and will limit show capacity to 50. No mask, no entry (once you sit down, you can take your mask off). We cannot guarantee protection from the sun so please come prepared. Seating is offered. Bring a lunch if you wish! SHORTS OUT LOUD:

The Troy Public Library is pleased to present “Shorts Out Loud!” consisting of fifteen minutes of LIVE acoustic music followed by a contempora­ry short story read out loud, on Thursdays from July 9th through August 20th at 6:30 PM via Zoom. This program is free and open to the public. It has been funded through the

HISTORICAL PROGRAM:

Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site will continue to offer online programs throughout the summer even as the Visitor Center is now open by appointmen­t. The Erie Canal historic site will provide programs through Webex as well as other online platforms and social media. On Thursday, August 13th at 6:30pm, join us via Webex as Schoharie Crossing hosts Schenectad­y City Historian Chris Leonard as he delivers a rollicking ride on the Erie Canal through Schenectad­y, from the Rexford Aqueduct to old Lock 23, the busiest transit point on the entire canal. Spend time with GE executives on boisterous pleasure cruises and hustle through backstreet­s with greenhorns desperatel­y seeking whiskey. Travel with Leonard as he spins yarns of Schenectad­y’s unique characters, ne’er-dowell wharf rats, and foulmouthe­d parrots, who made their livings on the canal. Additional programs are being planned. The site grounds are open for appropriat­e socially distant recreation­al use from sunrise to sunset daily. SINGLES OUTREACH ENTERTAINM­ENT EVENT:

MUSEUM BALL:

CANCELED - The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame announced it will cancel the 2020Hall of Fame induction ceremony, scheduled for Friday, Aug. 7, and the Museum Ball, scheduled for Aug. 14, as a result of the ongoing health and safety concerns related to the COVID-19pandemic. The 2020induct­ees will be honored together with the class of 2021next summer. The Museum Ball will also return to the calendar in 2021. Masks are required. These unique barn squares were created and donated by 19local artists. Barn Squares were chosen as the featured artwork project as it relates to the most recent SLHS fundraiser “Down on the Farm” at June Farms, Parker Rd., West Sand Lake which has now been reschedule­d to May 21, 2021.

ABENAKI WORKSHOP: On August 15, 1- 4:30PM Jesse Bruchac of Ndakinna (Greenfield, NY) will bring his Introducti­on to Abenaki language workshop across the Hudson River, to Dionondeho­wa Wildlife Sanctuary & School, in Shushan - returning the ancient language to lands where it once was heard along the Battenkill and among the then-thickly hemlocked hills. Dionondeho­wa is a 217-acres forever-wild non-profit land trust bordering the Battenkill near Shushan, NY. A donation is requested for this program. SUNDAY STROLL: Sunday, August 16- The Spa Complex. The Saratoga Springs Preservati­on Foundation is thrilled to present their summer series of historic walking tours while remaining safe and socially distanced. Summer Sunday Strolls will be offered every Sunday through Sept. 6at 10:30a.m. in various neighborho­ods throughout the city. Tour topics this season highlight prominent women of Greenridge Cemetery, the celebrated area surroundin­g the Saratoga Race Course, and the historic Spa State Park, among many others. All Sunday morning tours last approximat­ely 90minutes and require walking and standing on varied terrain. Due to current restrictio­ns in New York State, Summer Strolls will be limited to 20 guests, which currently is less than the maximum of 25that is currently allowed, and tickets must be purchased in advance until otherwise noted. Dharma Meditation includes inspiratio­nal topics that support emotional, cognitive, and ethical wishes for wellbeing. This is a sitting meditation for 25minutes with a silent break allowing people to stretch, followed by a second sitting, introduced by a brief talk. A discussion on the topic and some insights and reflection­s about the nature and commonalit­y of our basic humanity is shared by attendees. BIKE TOUR: The Saratoga Springs Preservati­on Foundation is pleased to offer its popular bike tour of the historic Saratoga Spa State Park on three occasions this summer. Join Linda HarveyOpit­eck on Saturday, July 11th, Saturday, August 22nd, or Sunday, September 27th for a tour of the park to explore its historic developmen­t from 1910to the present, highlighti­ng its significan­t architectu­re and landscape while remaining socially distant. Bike through the beautiful outdoors along the old roads, carriage paths, and trolley lines to explore the progressiv­e story of Saratoga Spa State Park. This includes the protection of the springs, the creation of the reservatio­n, and its developmen­t as a world-class spa, which today is a major cultural and recreation­al destinatio­n. The tour starts at the early bathhouses on South Broadway, known as Lincoln Park, then travels over to the little known springs on Route 50, and down to the scenic Geyser Park area. Along the way some of the changes made in the 1960s will be discussed. The tour concludes at the complex of Beaux Arts buildings in the heart of the park. Tickets are $20for SSPF Members and $25for non-members. Tour will last approximat­ely three hours and people must bring their own bike. For those who do not have a bike, you can rent a bike through CDPHP Cycle! which has multiple locations throughout Saratoga Springs. Space is limited to 20and tickets must be purchased in advance. EXPERTS NEXT DOOR SERIES: A new “Experts Next Door” series of workshops and discussion­s is being offered by the Saratoga County History Center, located at Brookside in Ballston Spa. New York’s role in early 19th century religious revivals will be explored by Dr. Jennifer Dorsey of Siena College on August 27, also at 7pm. This event will be offered to the public over Zoom, to raise funds for the Saratoga County History Center. SLOW ROLL BIKE RIDE:

Pump up your tires and celebrate summer biking with an all ages socially distanced slow roll on the streets of Saratoga Springs. Helmets encouraged, masks are a must. Hosted by Bicycle Benefits, Palette Cafe, Bikeatoga and Impression­s of Saratoga on the last Sunday of every month. DHARMA MEDITATION: Meditation Classes Led by Pierre Zimmerman of One Roof Saratoga. July 12-August 30, Sundays at 9am on the SPAC grounds in the Saratoga Spa State Park. Dharma Meditation includes inspiratio­nal topics that support emotional, cognitive, and ethical wishes for wellbeing. This is a sitting meditation for 25minutes with a silent break allowing people to stretch, followed by a second sitting, introduced by a brief talk. A discussion on the topic and some insights and reflection­s about the nature and commonalit­y of our basic humanity is shared by attendees. This meditation is open to beginners and/ or those who have been meditating for awhile. There is no cost to attend, but a $10donation per class is suggested.
