Arrest made in connection to recent thefts
NORTH GREENBUSH, N.Y. » North Greenbush police confirm they’ve made an arrest tied to motor vehicle and firearm thefts.
On Tuesday, Oct. 13, the North Greenbush Police Department arrested Cory Vumbacco, 23, in connection with some of the incidents of alleged theft the week prior in the area of Streamview Lane.
According to police, Vumbacco has ties to that neighborhood. Additionally, police say they believe a second suspect was also involved but no charges have been brought against that person, yet.
Police noted that during the course of the investigation, both vehicles had been recovered. Plus, one of the two stolen firearms has been recovered and the investigation is ongoing to locate the second weapon.
The investigation was run jointly between the North Greenbush Police and the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office as Vumbacco is believed to have committed crimes outside of North Greenbush that are connected to this investigation.
According to police, as of now, there is no indication that the recovered firearm was used in any crimes since its theft. It is unknown if the second weapon has been but efforts are ongoing to recover it as quickly as possible.
Police add the probe was assisted by numerous residents who came forward and provided very useful information.
“The investigation is far from over at this point,” Chief David M. Keevern stated.
“We still have another firearm out there and other people involved that we would like to identify and bring charges against,” Keevern continued regarding the ongoing investigation.
“The investigators worked very quickly on this and the recovery of at least one firearm is outstanding,” Keevern noted on the police work involved.
“We can’t thank our residents enough for all of their efforts in giving our investigators the leads they needed to bring this case to an arrest. That cooperation is what helps us all keep this town safe and we truly appreciate that,” Keevern added on the cooperation with the case investigation.
Vumbacco has been charged with one count of felony third- degree grand larceny, three counts of felony fourth- degree grand larceny, and one count of misdemeanor petit larceny.
Pol ice add f ur ther charges out of their department or another may be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
Vumbacco was arraigned by the Honorable Judge Piel at North Greenbush Town Court. He is due to appear back in that court later this month.
