In 1989, Bob Church met Sister Mary Ann LoGiudice, RSM, a representative of Community Maternity Services Program in Albany, at a check presentation for the Farano Center of Albany. The Farano Center of Albany, (created and supported a family and home-like atmosphere in a city residence for infants and children afflicted with AIDS. The Latham-Colonie Columbiettes held a fundraiser to support the efforts of the Center. t the time, Bob Church, Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus #3394 was invited to attend the check presentation along with several Columbiette members. Bob and Sister Mary Ann LaGuidice, RSM, chatted and began a wonderful and lasting friendship! Bob was impressed on learning the many programs and services available to the community provided by the Program. Bob then encouraged the Knights of Columbus and the Columbiettes to donate gifts and food to the Community Maternity Services Organization for the Thanksgiving and Christmas Seasons. Bob along with several Brother Knights shopped for and distributed all the donated items and monies to the families receiving services from the Community Maternity Services Program. Bob continued the collection and distribution of Holiday Cheer and support to the Community Maternity Services Program until his death in 2017. The Latham-Colonie Knights of Columbus and Columbiettes have proudly continued this tradition of giving through the creation of the Bob Church Memorial Fund, honoring our beloved Past-Grand Knight and Brother Knight! Unfortunately, as in most events this year, the Covid-19Pandemic impacted the traditional celebration! However, the Latham-Colonie Knights of Columbus are determined to raise the needed funds to continue this effort! For further information visit www.lathamcoloniekofc.com/ events.
