Brunswick - John ‘Jack’ Joseph O’Brien, Jr., 72, died Sunday, December 20, 2020, at his residence after a brief illness. Born in Troy, he was son of the late John Joseph O’Brien, Sr. and Pearl Brooking O’Brien and husband for 46 years of Susan M. Wright O’Brien. He was raised in Troy, had resided in Latham, Speigletow­n and Brunswick for most of his life and was a graduate of Troy High School. Jack was a Lead Chemical Operator at General Electric in Waterford for 34 years, retiring in 2008. He was a member of IUE-CWA Local 81359. He was an Army veteran, serving as a paratroope­r in the venerated 82nd Airborne Division. Jack enjoyed birdwatchi­ng, the bright lights of Las Vegas, was an avid sports fan and had a great jump shot. Most of all he enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchild­ren. In his leisure time, he was a rodeo clown and a water polo expert. Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, John J. (Elizabeth) O’Brien, III and Scott M. (Roni) O’Brien; three grandchild­ren, Riley, Avery and Nolan O’Brien; seven siblings, Patricia (Michael) Palladino, Mary Rose O’Brien, Michael O’Brien, James (Linda) O’Brien, Kathleen (Naveen) Mohan, Sandra O’Brien and Kevin (Tina) O’Brien and many other loved ones. Funeral service private at the convenienc­e of the family. Interment will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery Schuylervi­lle.
