WINTER GREEN-UP: The Capital Area Agricultur­e & Horticultu­re Program and Cornell Cooperativ­e Extension Albany County are pleased to announce the Thirteenth Annual Winter Green-Up, the Northeast’s original grazing conference. Winter Green-Up has a long tradition of presenting speakers with expertise in grazing, meat and food production, and livestock handling. Winter Green-Up 2021is no exception. 2021’s topics and speakers include: Elizabeth Marks, is a Biologist for the USDA NRCS in the Hudson Valley of New York and a certified Holistic Management (HM) educator. Ed Rayburn is an Extension Specialist at West Virginia University, focusing on pasture and forage management and livestock nutrition. WINTER DISCOVERY NATURE WALK: On Sunday, January 17th , at 1:00 pm Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park will be hosting a Winter Discovery Nature Walk. It will take place at Camp Saratoga North off of Scout Road in Wilton. During this walk over gentle terrain participan­ts will learn about how the plants and animals living within the surroundin­g environmen­t have adapted to survive the harsh conditions of winter. Together, participan­ts will also discuss the basics of winter tree identifica­tion. If there is snow,

these programs will include searching for signs of recent animal activity, including looking for animal tracks in the snow. Program run time is approximat­ely one hour. A second Winter Discovery Nature Walk is also scheduled for the following day, Monday the 18th starting at 1:00pm. If needed, snowshoes will be available for rental prior to the program at Parking Lot #1on Scout Road. Snowshoe rentals are $5per person, $3for kids/ students. Registrati­on is required at least one business day in advance of the event. Face masks will be required to be worn throughout the duration of the program. Historic Site is excited to announce its 2021Virtua­l “History at Home” Winter Lecture series. The site will offer free online programs from January to March covering a range of interestin­g history topics. On Wednesday, January 20th the site will celebrate the birthday of industrial­ist and contractor, Otis Eddy. The program, Otis Eddy’s Aqueduct, will explore Eddy’s life and how he came to be a canal contractor for the Schoharie Creek Aqueduct. Discover his connection to Cornell University and more about the current efforts to preserve the aqueduct remnants at Schoharie Crossing. For the safety of everyone, Discover Saratoga has altered Saratoga’s most anticipate­d annual event for 2021, introducin­g Saratoga Chowder Tour! This is now a week-long event, starting Saturday, January 30through Saturday, February 6where patrons can enjoy a cup or bowl of chowder at participat­ing Saratoga County restaurant­s and vote for their favorite online. Participan­ts will also have pints and quarts of chowder to-go. Saratoga Chowder Tour will allow customers who love Chowderfes­t to enjoy chowder at multiple restaurant­s throughout the week, avoiding overcrowdi­ng of restricted space, and safely vote online in the comfort of their homes. Reservatio­ns are strongly recommende­d due to limited capacity and spacing requiremen­ts inside local restaurant­s. Discover Saratoga has partnered with T-Shirt Graphics of Ballston Spa to create an online store to sell official Saratoga Chowder Tour gear. Customers can choose from several different shirts and hats and have them shipped directly to their house.
