Time to reset New York State
Happy New Year to Saratogian and Troy Record readers! The New York State Legislature’s 2021 Legislative Session is now underway and I’m proud to continue serving and representing YOU!
From the COVID-19 pandemic, to the economic downturn, to countless small businesses struggling to stay open or reopen, to our fellow New Yorkers who are unemployed, to a projected $15 billion state budget deficit and Albany’s mismanaged, chaotic, and confusing COVID-19 vaccine rollout, there’s no shortage of serious challenges awaiting us.
Time to hit the reset button
The enormity of the challenges we face has made it abundantly clear that New York State needs to hit the reset button and advance big, bold solutions that can help chart a positive
new course for our state and its citizens. That’s why my Senate Republican colleagues and I recently unveiled our “Reset New York State” plan, a comprehensive vision to address the mounting economic and fiscal challenges facing our state exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The goal of our Reset New York State plan is simple and straightforward: to help forge a better quality of life for all New Yorkers.
Our plan includes smart solutions that prioritize restarting our local economies, rethinking how New York State operates, and renewing a commitment to residents to ensure strong, safe, and robust communities. The following is an overview of some of the big picture priorities and principles within our Reset New York State plan:
Restart our local economies
• Safely reopen our small businesses to help them get back on their feet and offer gainful employment for residents;
• Help our schools and colleges stay open; and
• Invest in our physical and human infrastructure to rebuild our state’s competitiveness.
Rethink how New York State operates
• End New York State’s unaffordability problem, which has been made worse by the pandemic;
• Take on State government’s culture of overspending and restoring fiscal responsibility; and
• Reassert the Legislature’s constitutional authority as an equal branch of government and rescind the Governor’s expanded emergency powers.
Renew our commitment to residents
• Foster the growth of vibrant local communities;
• Develop a robust economy with diverse opportunities; and
• Create safer neighborhoods with common-sense public safety measures.
Time for fresh thinking
Overcoming the unprecedented, ongoing health, economic, and community challenges posed by COVID-19 requires rethinking the state’s approach to solving problems, successfully restarting our economy, and renewing our commitment to residents and each other. It’s time for our state to hit the reset button, and it begins with the priorities and principles contained in our Reset New York State plan.

My Senate Committee assignments for 2021
Last week, I announced my Senate Committee leadership positions and Senate Standing Committee appointments for the 2021 Legislative Session. I’m thrilled to again serve as the Ranking Republican Member on the Senate Racing, Gaming and Wagering Committee, as the horse racing industry is vitally important to Saratoga County.
Additionally, I was named the Ranking Republican Member on the Senate Libraries Committee, the
Senate State-Native American Relations Committee, and the Senate Women’s Issues Committee.
I’ll also continue serving on the Senate Agriculture Committee, the Senate Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee, begin serving on the Senate Procurements and Contracts Committee, and remain a member of the Senate Legislative Women’s Caucus.
I’m looking forward to these leadership positions and committee assignments that will help me continue serving and representing my constituents across the 43rd Senate District.
