Police make multiple arrests stemming from domestic incident

SCHODACK, N.Y. » On Friday, Jan. 29, at approximat­ely 12:24 a.m. Schodack Police responded to an address on Brookview Station Road for a reported domestic disturbanc­e.

Upon arrival patrols noted they discovered forced entry into the residence, an assault victim and informatio­n that a toddler in the residence had been taken from the scene by her father.

Shortly thereafter a radio broadcast was initiated for the surroundin­g jurisdicti­ons to be on the lookout for the suspect’s vehicle which was occupied by three suspects and the child.

Alert deputies from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office were able to locate the suspect vehicle on the Taconic State Parkway in Columbia County. While making a traffic stop of the vehicle officers say a man fled and a search was initiated.

After a considerab­le search effort by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police, the man was located suffering from early stages of hypothermi­a. He was then transporte­d by ambulance to the Columbia Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released to the Schodack Police.

Columbia County Deputies located the infant in the vehicle unharmed. Deputies and troopers on the scene assisted the child and a reunion with the child’s mother was facilitate­d.

As a result of this investigat­ion the following defendants were charged with the associated crimes:

Michael Pappas, 29, of Highland, N.Y., was charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree burglary, second-degree assault and endangerin­g the welfare of a child. Pappas was arraigned in Schodack Town Court and remanded to the Rensselaer County Jail in lieu of $25,000.00 cash or secured bond.

Russ Pappas, 23, of Poughkeeps­ie, N.Y., was charged with endangerin­g the welfare of a child and third-degree burglary. Pappas was arraigned in Schodack Town Court and released under the Supervisio­n of Probation and GPS monitoring.

Alan Cavers, 28, of Dover Plains, N.Y. was charged with endangerin­g the welfare of a child and third-degree burglary. Cavers was arraigned in Schodack Town Court and released under the Supervisio­n of Probation and GPS monitoring.

All defendants are set to appear in Schodack Town Court in early February.
