Legislature unanimously passes resolution in support of Cuomo probes
TROY, N.Y. » After allegations of sexual harassment allegations were made against Gov. Andrew Cuomo last week, the resolution was later amended to include support for a thorough investigation into to those allegations.
The resolution was adopted by a unanimous vote of 19-0. The resolution had bipartisan sponsorship and had the support of all of the Legislators with Erin Sullivan-Teta, not signing on in support.
In July of 2020, the Legislature adopted a resolution calling for an independent investigation into Gov. Cuomo’s deadly nursing home directive. That resolution passed 13-6 along party lines.
In January 2021, New York State Attorney General Letitia James issued the results of her investigation that concluded that a larger number of nursing home residents had died than what was reported.
“In recent days we have seen legislators from both sides of the aisle come out swinging against Governor Cuomo. The Legislature wants to add our voice to those who are calling for thorough independent investigations into his actions,” Chairman Michael Stammel remarked.
“The sexual harassment allegations against the governor should be thoroughly investigated. In the hype of this political atmosphere, the one thing that should not be forgotten or minimized is the victims,” ViceChair Kelly Hoffman noted.
“We have seen growing bipartisan support from state legislators that are looking to curtail the Governor’s Executive Powers. The Rensselaer County Legislature has bipartisan support for our resolution calling for continued investigations into the Governor’s coverup of nursing home deaths, and an investigation into the sexual harassment charges that continue to pile up against him,” Chair of Finance Bob Loveridge added.
