Vaccination clinic to be held at Watervliet Jr.-Sr. High School
WATERVLIET, N.Y. » The Watervliet Jr.-Sr. High School and Whitney Young Health are preparing to offer a first round COVID-19 vaccination clinic for district students aged 16 or older on Wednesday, April 14.
Following Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s announcement on March 29 about expanding vaccine eligibility in the state to include individuals who are 16 or older starting April 6, Whitney
Young Health immediately reached out to district leaders about coordinating a clinic for high school students who meet the age criteria. Whitney Young Health currently operates a school-based health center at Watervliet Jr.-Sr. High School that provides services for prekindergarten through grade 12 students.
“This is amazing news for our high school students and their families,” Dr. Lori Caplan, superintendent of schools, said.
“With the recent spike in COVID infections in our region and around the state, I am grateful to our partner Whitney Young Health for scheduling one of the first vaccination clinics for this age group right here in our high school,” Caplan added.
Caplan encouraged high school families to sign up eligible students for the upcoming vaccination clinic.
“I recommend that any and all students who are eligible take advantage of this opportunity to not only help protect their own health,” Caplan said, “but also to prevent passing the virus on to their family, their friends, or other loved ones who may have health conditions that put them at greater risk of infection.”
Watervliet’s school nurses will work with Whitney Young health professionals to assist with the student vaccines. The clinic is by appointment only. A follow-up clinic for second doses will take place Wednesday, May 5.
