TROY, N.Y. » The Arts Center of the Capital Region has been working on a new year-long listening and learning project that is simply called the Fish Market because that is where it is located - in a shutdown storefront on 6th Avenue in North Central Troy.

The Fish Market hopes to open in July, and the primary goal is to create a space where artists and the community can gather, and where the Arts Center can learn about the community’s needs, visions and hopes for their future. The Arts Center hopes to understand how it can play a role in serving these needs and, in turn, respond with long-term programming solutions.

The first task is to find the right kind of artist who will take over the space to make art and work with the public. The Fish Market is a social practice artist residency within the local community.

The Market will function as an artist studio and public gathering space, and through creative participation and engagement, artists can evolve their studio practice and explore their ideas within the context of North Central Troy. If you are interested in participating in this project, please go to www.artscenteronline.org/fish-market-project/ to review the complete “call for artist” information.

The next task is to finish building out the space. To do so, The Arts Center is seeking a variety of donated equipment and materials. Please call to schedule a time to drop off supplies at the Arts Center, or arrange to have us pick up heavier furniture and equipment. Monetary donations are also very

welcome. Please head to www.artscenteronline.org/fish-market-project/ to make a gift to support the program.
