QUEBEC, QC » The Tri-City ValleyCats (39-37) arrived at Stade Canac on Sunday hoping to avoid being swept by Equipe Quebec (38-38) in the matinee finale of a pivotal weekend set in the chase for the Atlantic Division’s crown.

For the second straight day, Tri-City’s starting pitcher would surrender nine earned runs in under six innings of work, with today’s starter Josh Hiatt (5-3) going four innings on the mound. For the third straight game, the ‘Cats surrendered double digit runs and hits.

On the offensive side, Juan Silverio homered, and Chris Kwitzer, Denis Phipps, and Willy Garcia all recorded multi-hit games in the loss.

On Monday, the Valleycats made a bunch of roster moves, as their lead in the Atlantic Division

has slipped to just one game and their losing streak has increased to four games.

Right-handed pitchers Erick Heredia and AJ Candelario, along with catcher Daniel Angulo, were placed on the inactive list, opening up three spots on the roster. The Valleycats signed catcher Jhon Nunez and left-hander Jervic Chavez, who had a previous stint with the Valleycats in 2019.

Pitchers Bruce Bell, Jose Cruz, Bryan Valdez were all activated from the inactive list, after not making the trip to Canada. John LaRossa, a righty, was acquired from the Florence Y’Alls for a player to be named later and was then placed on the 7-Day Injured List.

The Valleycats now have a three game series at the Washington Wild Things. This season they are 29-13 at home and 10-24 on the road. They were swept in their last season against Washington from July 30 — August 1.
