Come celebrate the transformative work happening at the High & Mighty Therapeutic Riding and Driving Center. The Barn Doors Are Open: Kick Up Your Heels! Saturday, August 28th, 5-10PM. The High & Mighty fundraiser is back and better than ever! This year’s event is for the whole family with games, dinner, music, raffle, and silent auction. Bring the kids for a scavenger hunt, ping-pong, corn hole, face painting, and more. For adults there will be plenty of fantastic items to bid on at our silent auction. Our special raffle this year is a pizza party for 20 in the privacy of your own home with a wood-fired pizza oven and pizza chef! High & Mighty is making sure the event is run in the safest way possible. It is outdoors, on the grounds of our beautiful 60-acre farm, with some activities in a large indoor arena. The arena has extra tall and wide windows and doors, which will be open for excellent cross-ventilation. There will be seating available, but we also encourage people to bring their own picnic blankets and chairs if they are more comfortable doing so. Dinner will be individually boxed meals, set out on a table for each person to pick up any time during the night. The High & Mighty Therapeutic Riding and Driving Center is a not-forprofit organization that offers equine-assisted services such as riding, driving, and groundwork to children and adults with disabilities in our community. In addition, we offer a veterans program and an all-abilities recreational program. Benefits of equineassisted services include but are not limited to: building muscle tone, strength, and control; increasing range of motion, endurance, balance, and sensory integration; increasing self-esteem, problem solving, and communications skills (including non-verbal); and reducing anxiety. When at capacity, High & Mighty provides equine-assisted services to approximately 90 participants per week and is supported by a dedicated group of trained volunteers who totaled more than 2000hours of service in 2020. STORYTELLING: Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site will host local storyteller Sandy Schuman for the conclusion of the 2021Not Just for Kids Storytelling series on Sunday, August 29th at 6pm. The series has brought local tellers, with well-crafted tales to perform during the 29th year of this program at Schoharie Crossing. Schuman will perform, “NY’s American Anthems: The Stories of Yankee Doodle, Take Me Out To The Ballgame, God Bless America, and More.” He is a winner of the Susquehanna Folk Festival Liars Contest and the St. Louis Jewish Storytelling Contest and has been featured at The Northeast Storytelling Conference, Riverway Storytelling Festival, Caffè Lena, Proctors, Tellabration, and Limmud Boston. Schuman is also a member of the Story Circle of the Capital District, Northeast Storytelling, National Storytelling Network, Jewish Storytelling Coalition, and Lifetime Arts Creative Aging Roster who tells stories about songs and songwriters, personal adventures, historical sagas, folk tales, and stories in the Jewish storytelling tradition. He plays his theme song on a Jew’s harp and when you hear him play the guitar, you’ll know why he calls himself a storyteller. Not Just for Kids Storytelling will be held outside, under a tent near the Visitor Center, 129 Schoharie Street, Fort Hunter, NY 12069. Wednesday, Sept. 1 EMERGENCY RENTAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM HELP: Please join us at the Troy Public Library, Wednesdays, Aug. 18, 25 & Sept. 1, 1-4:00 pm If you are interested in the New York State Emergency Rental Assistance program, Symone Wango of the Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York will be at the Troy Public Library to answer your questions and provide assistance. The Emergency Rental Assistance Program assists households behind on their rent that have experienced financial hardship due to COVID-19 and are at risk of homelessness or housing instability. In addition, the program can provide temporary rental assistance and assistance with unpaid utility bills. This assistance can pay up to 12 months of past due rent and for some households, pay up to 3 months for future rent. The program can also pay for up to 12 months of overdue electric or gas bills. Please note, payments will always be issued directly to the landlord or utility provider. This program is free and open to the public. REPTILE EXPO: The Saratoga Reptile Expo is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11 at the Saratoga Springs City Center. The expo will offer its largest selection of animals and supplies to date. More than 130 vendor tables will be set up, including about 60 breeders from all over the East Coast selling captive bred and long-term captive reptiles, amphibians, small exotic mammals, invertebrates (primarily arachnids, mantids, and leaf bugs), and feeders, as well as enclosures and care items for these animals. An education room will feature hands-on learning opportunities with zoologists and professional educators. Here, guest speakers will give presentations on various topics throughout the day. Presale tickets are being sold in hourly blocks to restrict the crowd to 50% of the capacity of the venue. Limited tickets may be available for sale at the door in accordance with Department of Health guidelines as of the day of the event. CHEESE TOUR: The Washington County Cheese Tour with Wine, Beer & Cider is back after being cancelled last year because of the pandemic. The annual Cheese Tour is on the weekend after Labor Day — Saturday, September 11 and Sunday, September 12 in 2021 — from 10 am to 4 pm. The outdoor tour is selfguided. Adventurers gather their friends and family to travel the twists and turns of Washington County’s country roads to visit four cheesemakers, a farm winery, a craft farmstead brewery and a farm cidery during the weekend event. Thursday, Sept. 16 HISTORY PRESENTATION: The Saratoga County History Roundtable will offer a presentation by Russ VanDervoort, Waterford Town Historian, at Brookside Museum in Ballston Spa on

Thursday September 16 at 7:00PM. Russ will tell the story of a 150year old murder for hire plot that a newspaper called “The Most Damnable Murder Plot ever Ventilated!”, an event that unfolded in 1870-1871 that involved participants from throughout Saratoga County. BROOKS BBQ: Newtonville United Methodist Church is happy to announce its Brooks BBQ dates for 2021. NUMC is located at the corner of Rt. 9and Maxwell Road near Siena College. Friday, Sept. 24 HOLLOWED HARVEST:

Returning for its second year, the Hollowed Harvest is a Jack-O’-Lantern spectacle designed for audiences of all ages. This year, the Hollowed Harvest will feature dozens of brand new largerthan-life Jack-O’-Lantern displays, some towering as tall as two stories and spanning more than 50 feet in length. Attendees can expect to take about 35-40 minutes to walk through the show in its entirety. Join us to see fantastic scenes made with over 7,000 JackO’-Lanterns! Once open, the show is scheduled to remain open Thursday-Sunday through Oct. 31 at the Altamont Fairgrounds. A full schedule is available at HollowedHarvest.com. Saturday, Sept. 25 RUN FOR WOMEN:

Officials at the Freihofer’s Run for Women (FRW) today announced that the event’s 43rd edition, which was originally set for Saturday, June 5, has been moved to Saturday, Sept. 25 in downtown Albany. The event will feature an in-person 5K, Junior 3K and Kids’ Run featuring CDC- and New York state-mandated safety measures. Virtual options will also be offered for both the 5K and Junior 3K. Registration for the event will open late spring at freihofersrun.com. With the Run for Women pushed off until later this year, organizers plan to shift the start of the event’s popular Training Challenge from Monday, March 22 to Monday, July 12. The program is an 11week program for runners of all abilities. It follows a beginner’s 5K training plan and features small groups led by mentors, as well as a virtual option. The freight shed, which houses all kinds of railroad memorabilia, including a restored 1917 Delaware & Hudson Railway caboose, will also be open to show-goers. The volunteers of SCHA are most anxious to be back to hosting our antique show! Our buildings and grounds will be filled with quality dealers who show and sell treasures from our past. There will also be a special exhibit and sale of Shirley’s Stoney Creek Quilts &Wovens on the second floor of the Creamery Building. This year we welcome the Heritage Artisans as well: the butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker, the broommaker and the blacksmith, to mention a few. The cooks of SCHA have put together a selection of picnic items with our famous homemade desserts, should you want a great lunch under our picnic tent. Proceeds from the antique shows fund the ongoing historic activities of the Schoharie Colonial Heritage Association. Mark your calendar: Saturday, 9⁄25 from 10-5 and Sunday, 9⁄26 from 11-4.
