Come celebrate the transforma­tive work happening at the High & Mighty Therapeuti­c Riding and Driving Center. The Barn Doors Are Open: Kick Up Your Heels! Saturday, August 28th, 5-10PM. The High & Mighty fundraiser is back and better than ever! This year’s event is for the whole family with games, dinner, music, raffle, and silent auction. Bring the kids for a scavenger hunt, ping-pong, corn hole, face painting, and more. For adults there will be plenty of fantastic items to bid on at our silent auction. Our special raffle this year is a pizza party for 20 in the privacy of your own home with a wood-fired pizza oven and pizza chef! High & Mighty is making sure the event is run in the safest way possible. It is outdoors, on the grounds of our beautiful 60-acre farm, with some activities in a large indoor arena. The arena has extra tall and wide windows and doors, which will be open for excellent cross-ventilatio­n. There will be seating available, but we also encourage people to bring their own picnic blankets and chairs if they are more comfortabl­e doing so. Dinner will be individual­ly boxed meals, set out on a table for each person to pick up any time during the night. The High & Mighty Therapeuti­c Riding and Driving Center is a not-forprofit organizati­on that offers equine-assisted services such as riding, driving, and groundwork to children and adults with disabiliti­es in our community. In addition, we offer a veterans program and an all-abilities recreation­al program. Benefits of equineassi­sted services include but are not limited to: building muscle tone, strength, and control; increasing range of motion, endurance, balance, and sensory integratio­n; increasing self-esteem, problem solving, and communicat­ions skills (including non-verbal); and reducing anxiety. When at capacity, High & Mighty provides equine-assisted services to approximat­ely 90 participan­ts per week and is supported by a dedicated group of trained volunteers who totaled more than 2000hours of service in 2020. Schuman is also a member of the Story Circle of the Capital District, Northeast Storytelli­ng, National Storytelli­ng Network, Jewish Storytelli­ng Coalition, and Lifetime Arts Creative Aging Roster who tells stories about songs and songwriter­s, personal adventures, historical sagas, folk tales, and stories in the Jewish storytelli­ng tradition. He plays his theme song on a Jew’s harp and when you hear him play the guitar, you’ll know why he calls himself a storytelle­r. The Emergency Rental Assistance Program assists households behind on their rent that have experience­d financial hardship due to COVID-19 and are at risk of homelessne­ss or housing instabilit­y. In addition, the program can provide temporary rental assistance and assistance with unpaid utility bills. This assistance can pay up to 12 months of past due rent and for some households, pay up to 3 months for future rent. The program can also pay for up to 12 months of overdue electric or gas bills. This event is to honor the victims of that day, as well as those who have lost their lives in the years since due to health issues from working on the rescue and recovery efforts. REPTILE EXPO: The Saratoga Reptile Expo is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11 at the Saratoga Springs City Center. The expo will offer its largest selection of animals and supplies to date. More than 130 vendor tables will be set up, including about 60 breeders from all over the East Coast selling captive bred and long-term captive reptiles, amphibians, small exotic mammals, invertebra­tes (primarily arachnids, mantids, and leaf bugs), and feeders, as well as enclosures and care items for these animals. An education room will feature hands-on learning opportunit­ies with zoologists and profession­al educators. Here, guest speakers will give presentati­ons on various topics throughout the day. Presale tickets are being sold in hourly blocks to restrict the crowd to 50% of the capacity of the venue. Limited tickets may be available for sale at the door in accordance with Department of Health guidelines as of the day of the event. Officials at the Freihofer’s Run for Women (FRW) today announced that the event’s 43rd edition, which was originally set for Saturday, June 5, has been moved to Saturday, Sept. 25 in downtown Albany. The event will feature an in-person 5K, Junior 3K and Kids’ Run featuring CDC- and New York state-mandated safety measures. Virtual options will also be offered for both the 5K and Junior 3K. Registrati­on for the event will open late spring at freihofers­run.com. With the Run for Women pushed off until later this year, organizers plan to shift the start of the event’s popular Training Challenge from Monday, March 22 to Monday, July 12.
