TIME FOR THE FAIR

Schaghtico­ke Fair begins today

SCHAGHTICO­KE, N.Y. » The Schaghtico­ke Fair is back for 2021, celebratin­g 202 years of showcasing agricultur­e and entertainm­ent.

This year’s fair theme is “Agricultur­e is Essential.” Building after building will be bursting with vegetables, fruits, animals, antiques, baked goods and homemade crafts throughout the fair, which is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 1 through Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 6 at the Schaghtico­ke Fairground­s, located at 69 Stillwater Bridge Rd. in Schaghtico­ke.

As the third oldest fair in New York state, the Schaghtico­ke Fair takes great pride in being a family fair with hands-on participat­ion at its exhibits. Fair organizers aim to provide opportunit­ies for attendees to experience agricultur­e in action.

Other attraction­s fairgoers can look forward to are Brunon Blaszak’s Royal Bengal Tigers, the Buffalo Barfield Music Show, Swifty Swine Pig Races, the Tropigal Review, the Lucky E Rodeo, the Royal Hanneford Circus, truck pulls, tractor pulls and the ever-popular demolition derby.

The fair gates will open at 10 a.m. each day, followed by the carnival at noon.

Adult Admission is $12 each. Children age 13 and

younger are free to attend. Season passes are also available.

Grandstand events will require an additional $2 ticket.

On Wednesday, the fair will once again kick off with Dollar Day, when adult admission is discounted to $1 and ride tickets will be sold for $1 each (when purchased in quantities of 10). Wednesday is also Military Appreciati­on Day, for which veterans and active-duty military members can visit the fair for free with military ID.

For Senior Citizen Day on Thursday, admission will be discounted to $5 for anyone age 62 or older.
