My Little Dog Co. celebrates move to a bigger location

TROY, N.Y. » My Little Dog & Co., the pet supply store on North Greenbush Rd., has moved down the street to a bigger location. Owner Renee Murphy recently celebrated the new location’s ribbon-cutting and was joined by county and state officials.

The new location has allowed Murphy to expand her store to include a large grooming and spa section. The state-of-the-art salon includes adjustable height grooming tables, wash stations, and all the supplies any dog will need to come out of their salon session looking their best. Lead groomer Rob Brightly has been in the industry for more than 20 years, and Murphy is glad to have him on her team.

“Rob is wonderful with the dogs,” she said. “It’s not a ‘job’ for him, you know, because he loves it. He’s very good to work with. We’re so excited he’s here.”

All (four-legged) guests at the My Little Dog & Co. salon will go home with a complimentary custom bandana, and a cookie from Dean’s Delicious Dog Treats in Schuylerville. Like all of the products Murphy sells in her store, they are made in small batches by local businesses. Murphy is proud to offer products made in the US that support organic

materials, small businesses, and women-owned companies.

“The products I carry are not found in ‘big box’ stores,” she said. “They’ll really give pets a unique look.”

The new store is part of Murphy’s ultimate vision of what she wants her business to be. The extra space has allowed her to open the dog spa she always knew she wanted to have.

“From the beginning, I wanted to create a very unique store for pet owners,” she explained. “It’s been my dream to create a beautiful, stress-free grooming spa for dogs. As a dog owner myself, I have an idea of what I want for my pets, and hopefully what other people want for their pets too. It’s all about great customer service and a special experience.”

“Thank you for continuing to invest in Rensselaer County,” said Rensselaer County Regional Chamber of Commerce President Kate Manley at the ribboncutting.

Murphy received citations for the store’s new location from Manley, county legislators Carole Weaver and Tom Grant, and a representative for Senator Daphne Jordan.

The new store is at 48 North Greenbush Rd. Hours are 11 a.m. — 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. While getting there might be a little difficult for the time being due to heavy construction, once the roadwork is complete it will be easy to get in and out of the plaza where the store is located. That’s what Murphy likes about her new location — it’s got better accessibility, visibility, foot traffic, and parking.

Murphy is going to put all of those advantages to good use in the coming months. She’s hosting an adoption clinic on Sept. 11, partnering with Bonnie Ginter from Pepper Tree Rescue to help as many animals as she can find forever homes. Later that month, she’s going to host a children’s workshop taught by Alissa Moiser from Old Dogs New Tricks Dog Training, to teach kids how to safely approach and interact with a dog. It will also be an opportunity for young pet owners to ask questions about caring for their dogs. To sign up for the workshop, targeted for children aged 7-12, call or stop into the shop or send Murphy a message on the store’s FaceBook page.
