MAKE IT UP STATE MARKETPLACE:
After an eight-week winter inaugural season indoors in Lansingburgh, Make It Up State, a local business development organization, has moved outdoors to celebrate warmer weather along the Hudson River and local, regional producers of goods, food, music, art, and more. The Make It Up State Riverfront Marketplace will run every Sunday from 9am — 2pm in Troy’s Riverfront Park through mid-October, excluding July 4th. With a rotating lineup of over 50 vendors, meaning each week will be different, organizers say there is something for everyone.The park’s main lot will be open for public parking. CHEESE TOUR: The Washington County Cheese Tour with Wine, Beer & Cider is back after being cancelled last year because of the pandemic. The annual Cheese Tour is on the weekend after Labor Day — Saturday, September 11 and Sunday, September 12 in 2021 — from 10 am to 4 pm. The outdoor tour is selfguided. Adventurers gather their friends and family to travel the twists and turns of Washington County’s country roads to visit four cheesemakers, a farm winery, a craft farmstead brewery and a farm cidery during the weekend event. There is no admission fee for The Tour. Limited free product samples will be provided and a full range of product samples will be available for a nominal fee. Most religious and cultural traditions provide guidance on how to seek forgiveness and how to provide it. With the upcoming Jewish holiday of Yom Kipuar—the Day of Atonement—in mind, Sandy Schuman will share stories of forgiveness from the Jewish tradition as our featured teller. A popular local teller, Sandy tells stories about songs and songwriters, personal adventures, historical sagas, and folk tales. He is a winner of the St. Louis Jewish Storytelling Contest, has been featured at various festivals and conferences and at Caffe Lena, Proctors, Tellabration, and Limmd Boston. HISTORY PRESENTATION: The Saratoga County History Roundtable will offer a presentation by Russ VanDervoort, Waterford Town Historian, at Brookside Museum in Ballston Spa on Thursday September 16 at 7:00PM. Russ will tell the story of a 150 year old murder for hire plot that a newspaper called “The Most Damnable Murder Plot ever Ventilated!”, an event that unfolded in 1870-1871 that involved participants from throughout Saratoga County. BROOKS BBQ: Newtonville United Methodist Church is happy to announce its Brooks BBQ dates for 2021. NUMC is located at the corner of Rt. 9and Maxwell Road near Siena College. Our dates for 2021 are: Thursday, May 13; Thursday, June 10; Wednesday, July 28; Thursday, September 16; and Thursday, October 7. We offer a chicken dinner for $11 or a rib dinner for $13. Dinners include a baked potato, roll, applesauce and a homemade brownie. We also offer the option of just meat — a half chicken for $8 or a half rack of ribs for $10. St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Waterford will again have their Giant Garage Sale on Saturday, September 18th both indoors and outdoors in the Parish Hall located on the corner of Sixth and Division Streets. The sale will run from 9:00 to 5:00 with early birds welcome from 8-9 am at a cost of $5per person. Donations will gratefully be accepted on the following dates only: Tuesday, Sept. 14th, Wednesday, Sept. 15th and Thursday, Sept. 16th from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm each day. No electronics or clothing, please. Books are appreciated, but no encyclopedias or magazines.
