GARAGE SALE DONATIONS: St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Waterford will again have their Giant Garage Sale on Saturday, Sept. 18both indoors and outdoors in the Parish Hall located on the corner of Sixth and Division Streets. The sale will run from 9:00to 5:00with early birds welcome from 8-9am at a cost of $5per person. Donations will gratefully be accepted on the following dates only: Tuesday, Sept. 14th, Wednesday, Sept. 15th and Thursday, Sept. 16th from 9:00am to 6:00pm each day. No electronic­s or clothing, please. Books are appreciate­d, but no encycloped­ias or magazines. CALL FOR ART: The Arts Center of the Capital Region will host its annual members’ Fence Show beginning Sept. 23, 2021. The Fence Show is an annual celebratio­n that pays homage to a time when members’ artwork was exhibited on the iron fence surroundin­g Washington Park in Troy, the original location of the Arts Center. The theme of this year’s Fence Show is “Art is Essential.” Anyone with an active membership to the Arts Center may submit artwork to the show. Membership­s must be valid through December 10, 2021. New and renewed membership­s must be postmarked or received by September 3, 2021. All levels of skill and ability are represente­d, from novice to profession­al, as well as an array of media including but not limited to paintings, drawings, photograph­y, fiber arts, stained glass, and sculpture; non-traditiona­l media and electronic arts are welcome. All artwork must be for sale. The Fence Show comprises two exhibition­s: Fence Salon and Fence Select. Fence Salon (Sep. 23— Oct. 30) displays member artwork floorto-ceiling, showcasing as much work as will fit in our Main Gallery. From this collection, 50-75pieces will be chosen by a juror to remain on display for Fence Select (Nov. 19 — Dec. 11). This year’s juror is Dan Cameron, a New York-based curator, writer, and educator. Cameron was born in Utica, NY and holds a BA in philosophy from Bennington College. ACCR will host an artist reception and awards ceremony on October 14at 6PM. Cash prizes will be awarded for Best in Show and Runner Up; the winner of Best in Show will also receive an individual exhibition at the Arts Center. A second reception for Fence Select will take place December 2at 6PM. New to this year’s exhibition, ACCR invites Fence Student work to our Foyer Gallery in November & December during the Fence Select exhibition. K-12students are welcome to enter the show either as part of their school or as individual­s with a valid student membership. AUTUMN JEWELS SHOW: The 24th Annual Autumn Jewels Show will be held during October at the Clifton Park Senior Community Center, 6Clifton Common Blvd.

It is sponsored by the Southern Saratoga Art Society and is open to all area artists. Entries will be judged and prizes awarded in both fine arts and photograph­y. HOLLOWED HARVEST: Returning for its second year, the Hollowed Harvest is a Jack-O’-Lantern spectacle designed for audiences of all ages. This year, the Hollowed Harvest will feature dozens of brand new larger-than-life JackO’-Lantern displays, some towering as tall as two stories and spanning more than 50feet in length. Attendees can expect to take about 35-40minutes to walk through the show in its entirety. Join us to see fantastic scenes made with over 7,000Jack-O’-Lanterns! SWIM LESSONS: City officials announced details on swim lesson availabili­ty at the South Troy Swimming Pool for the 2021season. Lessons will be held Monday through Friday, from 10:00a.m. until noon. Registrati­on is required for participan­ts, and is limited to individual­s between the ages of 4-15. Registrati­on is available at the South Troy Pool during normal operating hours, or by calling (518) 270-5014. The South Troy Swimming Pool— located on S Troy Pool Lane—is open daily to the public from 1:00p.m. to 6:00p.m. (weather permitting). Access to the pool will be limited to Troy residents only. Children under the age of 18must be accompanie­d by an adult. The City of Troy is partnering with the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Capital Area (BGCCA) to operate the facility for the 2021season. BGCCA will provide lifeguards and offer swimming lessons and free lunch programs. CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS: Troy City Council meetings are held on the first Thursday of every month at 7p.m. They typically take place in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 433River St, Troy, but are currently being held virtually via Zoom. Committee meetings are scheduled on a regular basis. Agendas and minutes for meetings are posted on the city’s website. All meetings are open to the public. At monthly regular meetings, Troy residents can discuss any issue related to the City of Troy. FOREST CONSERVATI­ON FOR TEENS:

Youth are the present and future of this planet. Want to put on a pair of work gloves and get dirty? Ready to learn how to support healthy forests? Want to protect our shared environmen­t?

Ready to have fun in the woods? Weekend Program: September 25-26, Dyken Pond EEC. This free program offers young people aged 14-16a chance to complete valuable conservati­on projects on-site while getting essential work experience that could inspire future job opportunit­ies. Teens will meet local conservati­onists protecting and advocating for our environmen­t. A typical day might include clearing trails, entering data for a citizen science monitoring project, building outdoor living skills while enjoying the great outdoors. Most days will start at 9AM and end by 4PM. With the help of a grant from the US Forest Service we can offer each teen that completes one of these events a financial stipend. TROY CYO GENERAL APPEAL:

The Troy Youth Associatio­n (CYO) recently announced that all of last year’s successful General Appeal Chairperso­ns which surpassed the goal of $10,000with a final total of $15,500will be back on board. They include; Frank Merola Rensselaer County Clerk and William Fagan President Wm.J. Fagan &Sons, Inc. Clem Campana, Facilities Manager @ HVCC and Kelly Forenzo past CYO Center Programmer and fundraisin­g Chairperso­n will again team up to work for the youth in the Troy Area. The three officers and Kelly have been active members totaling over 80years of service to the youth in the Troy Community through their involvemen­t with the agency. Their dedication to the Center and the community was especially appreciate­d with the donors contributi­ng to surpass the original goal. The General Appeal campaign raises funds from business, civic and community leaders to assist the CYO in providing youth and community based programs that benefit the Troy youth. Among the services the agency provides are after school childcare, summer day camp, teen programs that include basketball leagues, drug awareness activities that include more than 2500youth and adults from around the Capital Region as well as the Challenger programs that averages about 40particip­ants with disabiliti­es. The General Appeal Campaign was originated seven years ago to offset the decrease in funding, high cost of energy usage, building repair and to continue to serve the families with low cost fees. We hope that you will again support our agency in these critical times when every dollar means so much to the youth of Troy.

BULK COLLECTION RESUMING:

Officials with the Troy Department of General Services announced that bulk pickup will resume on May 10. Troy residents can request items such as furniture, appliances, carpets, mattresses, etc. be picked up by scheduling an appointmen­t with the Department of Public Works (DPW). To schedule a bulk pickup, residents must contact the DPW dispatcher at (518) 270-4579. Residents should not place bulk items curbside prior to contacting DPW. Doing so will violate City Code and you may be assessed a fine. There is a $25haul charge for all scheduled bulk collection­s up to 2cubic yards (ex: washer and dryer side by side). Non-owner-occupied properties will be charged an additional fee based upon specific bulk waste items. Tenants are asked to coordinate with their landlord or property owner when scheduling a bulk pickup. Owner-occupied properties are exempt from itemized charges. Property owners who use private garbage collection can utilize the City’s bulk collection service, but will be subject to the haul charge and additional per-item fees. MAKE IT UP STATE MARKETPLAC­E:

After an 8-week winter inaugural season indoors in Lansingbur­gh, Make It Up State (MIUS), a local business developmen­t organizati­on, will move outdoors to celebrate warmer weather along the Hudson River and local, regional producers of goods, food, music, art, and more. The Make It Up State Riverfront Marketplac­e will run every Sunday from 9am — 2pm in Troy’s Riverfront Park through mid-October. MIUS focuses on “makers” and for them, the definition is broader than most people consider. With a rotating lineup of over 50vendors, meaning each week will be different, organizers say there is something for everyone. The park’s main lot will be open for public parking. LITTLE FREE LIBRARY: There’s a new Little Free Library at the corner of Van Schaick Avenue and Delaware Avenue in Cohoes. This library was designed to be a replica of the Van Schaick Mansion. It contains children’s books, interestin­g novels, and all types of reading material that will be of interest to any and all age groups.

CLOTHING SHED: The Clothing Shed located at the LathamColo­nie Knights of Columbus, 328Troy-Schenectad­y Road has reopened! The Covid-19Pandemic has hit the Knights of Columbus and the Columbiett­es very hard. We’ve had very few opportunit­ies this past year to raise funds for the Community Groups we support! We accept clothing, shoes, belts, purses, blankets, sheets, towels, comforters, curtains, pillowcase­s and stuffed animals. Please bag all items. NEW TROY ONLINE PARKING PERMIT SYSTEM:

The City of Troy recently launched a new online parking permit registrati­on system for spaces in municipall­y-operated lots and garages. The system will

simplify the permit reservatio­n and payment process and allow the City to issue and track parking permits using license plates instead of physical tags. Effective January 2021, monthly parking fees for municipal lots & garages will increase to $75. Drivers are encouraged to renew their current parking permit online at www.troyparkin­gpermits. rmcpay.com. FREE ART KITS: The Troy Public Library is giving away free Art Kits courtesy of the TANG Museum! Kids ages 5-12 can pick up a set of art supplies including watercolor pencils, markers, coloring pages, and a sketch pad along with instructio­ns for creating art projects at home. FARMERS MARKET: The Troy Waterfront Farmers Market (TWFM) is holding its Winter markets from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays indoors at the former Lansingbur­gh Price Chopper, More than 60 vendors will participat­e. For the previous 18 years, the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market held its winter market downtown in the Troy Atrium, which the organizati­on leased from the owner. This winter will be the first time since its inception that the market will have a presence in Lansingbur­gh, Troy’s northernmo­st district. In accordance with New York State’s current COVID-19 guidelines, the Lansingbur­gh store will have a capacity of 200 at any one time. After counting the vendors and staff, the space will be able to safely accommodat­e approx. 120 customers at a time with ample room for social distancing.

Customers can arrive any time during market hours. When the market reaches capacity, arriving customers will be asked to wait in line outside the store.
