9⁄11 CEREMONY OF REMEMBRANCE: At 10 am on Saturday, Sept. 11 at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, located at 200Duell Rd. in Schuylerville will host a ceremony in remembrance of the attack on Sept., 11 2011. This event is to honor the victims of that day, as well as those who have lost their lives in the years since due to health issues from working on the rescue and recovery efforts. We also honor those who served in the military and made the ultimate sacrifice. Several of these men and women are interred in this cemetery. HISTORICAL TOURS: On September 11, 2021 the Lansingburgh Historical Society will open the Melville House for tours from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. We will also have a display of artifacts from the Boradaile which was the country residence, high on the hill overlooking Lansingburgh, of George W. Daws. The cost was over $100,000 back in 1887. (Perhaps $2.5 million in 2017 dollars) Also present to answer questions will be Helen Mancuso. Mrs. Mancuso is the daughter of the owners of the Boradaile when it was a beautiful, elegant restaurant. The Melville House is located at 2 — 114th St., Troy, NY 12182. A $5. donation will be appreciated.

REPTILE EXPO: The Saratoga Reptile Expo is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11at the Saratoga Springs City Center. The expo will offer its largest selection of animals and supplies to date. More than 130 vendor tables will be set up, including about 60 breeders from all over the East Coast selling captive bred and long-term captive reptiles, amphibians, small exotic mammals, invertebrates (primarily arachnids, mantids, and leaf bugs), and feeders, as well as enclosures and care items for these animals. An education room will feature hands-on learning opportunities with zoologists and professional educators. Here, guest speakers will give presentations on various topics throughout the day. Presale tickets are being sold in hourly blocks to restrict the crowd to 50% of the capacity of the venue. Limited tickets may be available for sale at the door in accordance with Department of Health guidelines as of the day of the event. However, anyone interested in attending is encouraged to preorder tickets. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children ages six to 13, and admission for children age five and younger is free. Adventurers gather their friends and family to travel the twists and turns of Washington County’s country roads to visit four cheesemakers, a farm winery, a craft farmstead brewery and a farm cidery during the weekend event. There is no admission fee for The Tour. Limited free product samples will be provided and a full range of product samples will be available for a nominal fee. New to The Cheese Tour this year is Slyboro Ciderhouse located in Granville at the site of Hick’s Orchard. Slyboro’s owner, Dan Wilson, is longtime leader in agritourism in Washington County. Other stops on The Cheese Tour are Argyle Cheese Farmer at their new location in Fort Edward, Consider Bardwell Farm in Pawlet, VT, Dancing Ewe Farm in Granville, Moxie Ridge Farm in Argyle, R.S. Taylor & Son Brewery in West Hebron, and Victory View Vineyard in North Easton. DUNKIN RUN: The Albany Jewish Community Center, along with help from the Albany Running Exchange (ARE), will host its 42nd Dunkin’ Run on Sunday, Sept. 12. This event will be the first in-person race in the Capital Region in over a year. Attracting runners of all ages throughout the Northeast, participants can choose whether they want to take part in a 5K, 10K, 15K or a children’s Munchkin’ Run race. All participants will receive a run packet containing a Dunkin’ Run shirt and other goodies. The first race starts at 8:20a.m. and the children’s run, which will conclude the event, begins at 10 a.m. The Dunkin’ Run helps raise funds that directly support programs at the Albany JCC such as early childhood, afterschool and summer youth programs, and cultural and community programs. After an eightweek winter inaugural season indoors in Lansingburgh, Make It Up State, a local business development organization, has moved outdoors to celebrate warmer weather along the Hudson River and local, regional producers of goods, food, music, art, and more. The Make It Up State Riverfront Marketplace will run every Sunday from 9am — 2pm in Troy’s Riverfront Park through mid-October, excluding July 4th. HISTORY PRESENTATION: The Saratoga County History Roundtable will offer a presentation by Russ VanDervoort, Waterford Town Historian, at Brookside Museum in Ballston Spa on Thursday September 16 at 7:00PM. Russ will tell the story of a 150year old murder for hire plot that a newspaper called “The Most Damnable Murder Plot ever Ventilated!”, an event that unfolded in 1870-1871 that involved participants from throughout Saratoga County. HOLLOWED HARVEST: Returning for its second year, the Hollowed Harvest is a Jack-O’-Lantern spectacle designed for audiences of all ages. This year, the Hollowed Harvest will feature dozens of brand new largerthan-life Jack-O’-Lantern displays, some towering as tall as two stories and spanning more than 50feet in length. Attendees can expect to take about 35-40 minutes to walk through the show in its entirety. Join us to see fantastic scenes made with over 7,000 JackO’-Lanterns! RUN FOR WOMEN: Officials at the Freihofer’s Run for Women (FRW) today announced that the event’s 43rd edition, which was originally set for Saturday, June 5, has been moved to Saturday, Sept. 25 in downtown Albany. The event will feature an in-person 5K, Junior 3K and Kids’ Run featuring CDC- and New York state-mandated safety measures. Virtual options will also be offered for both the 5K and Junior 3K. Registration for the event will open late spring at freihofersrun.com. With the Run for Women pushed off until later this year, organizers plan to shift the start of the event’s popular Training Challenge from Monday, March 22 to Monday, July 12. The program is an 11week program for runners of all abilities. It follows a beginner’s 5K training plan and features small groups led by mentors, as well as a virtual option. After an eight-week winter inaugural season indoors in Lansingburgh, Make It Up State, a local business development organization, has moved outdoors to celebrate warmer weather along the Hudson River and local, regional producers of goods, food, music, art, and more. The Make It Up State Riverfront Marketplace will run every Sunday from 9am — 2pm in Troy’s Riverfront Park through mid-October, excluding July 4th. With a rotating lineup of over 50 vendors, meaning each week will be different, organizers say there is something for everyone.The park’s main lot will be open for public parking. Returning for its second year, the Hollowed Harvest is a Jack-O’-Lantern spectacle designed for audiences of all ages. This year, the Hollowed Harvest will feature dozens of brand new larger-thanlife Jack-O’-Lantern displays, some towering as tall as two stories and spanning more than 50 feet in length. Attendees can expect to take about 35-40 minutes to walk through the show in its entirety. Join us to see fantastic scenes made with over 7,000 Jack-O’-Lanterns! Once open, the show is scheduled to remain open Thursday-Sunday through Oct. 31 at the Altamont Fairgrounds. A full schedule is available at HollowedHarvest.com.
