Hoosick Falls Central School District announces its top 10 students of the Class of 2022

HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. » The Hoosick Falls Central School District announced its top 10 students of the Class of 2022.

Emma Cross is the valedictor­ian, while Michael Cornell is the salutatori­an.

The valedictor­ian of the Hoosick Falls Central School Class of 2022 is Emma Cross.

Cross has served as her class treasurer, President of National Honor Society, Editor-in-Chief of the school newspaper, Panther Post, and co-President of Student Council. Emma is a Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) Alumna, and received the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Good Citizens Award.

Cross plans to continue her education at St. Lawrence University. She hopes to become a lawyer and study the intersecti­on of law and psychology. Cross is involved with her community, volunteeri­ng at the Louis Miller Museum. There she developed her love of studying history.

In her free time, Cross can be found reading, painting, or watching historical documentar­ies.

She is the daughter of John Cross and Heidi Cross, both of Hoosick Falls.

The salutatori­an of the Hoosick Falls Central School Class of 2022 is Michael Cornell.

Cornell was a member of the National Honor Society, played soccer and was a team captain of the track team.

Cornell will be attending SUNY-Oswego in the fall.

Ranked No. 3 in the class, Perry will continue her education at Siena, and will be majoring in biochemist­ry. She is a soccer player, and served as president of her class and vice president of National Honor Society. In her free time, she reads, plays soccer and badminton, and listens to music.

Ranked No. 4 in the class, Janowski is currently in Advanced Placement art this year, along with graphic design. She also enjoys being competitiv­e in sports and other activities. In the fall, she will attend Hudson Valley Community College for digital media.

MacNeil is a member of the National Honor Society and President of the FFA and club. She is the captain of the varsity soccer, basketball, and track and field teams and has been a Scholar-Athlete for the past four years. She made the Wasaren League soccer first team and the Section II AllStar team and was also named to the Wasaren League second team in basketball.

Outside of school she participat­es in AAU basketball and is an active member of Rensselaer County 4-H. She enjoys showing her dairy cows and working on her family’s dairy farm. She is also a lifeguard at the town pool.

She is going to attend SUNY-Cobleskill in the fall majoring in Animal ScienceDai­ry. She is the daughter of Steven and Rachel MacNeil and sister to Connor MacNeil of Hoosick Falls.

Hathaway is ranked No. 6 in the class of 2022. Hathaway will be attending SUNY Cortland to major in biomedical sciences. Hathaway plans to get his doctorate in medical sciences. Hathaway will be going to play college football and can be found either in the gym or in line for food. Hathaway enjoys shooting, wrestling, football and lifting. He also enjoys hiking, sleeping and playing video games.

Hathaway is a part of the local fire department and helps with the local food program focused on giving food out to students in need. Hathaway worked at the town rink over the winter. Hunter wants to pursue a life of helping people who are in need.

Hathaway’s parents are Shane Hathaway and Jessica Eckert.

Ranked No. 7 in the class of 2022 is Rylie Niles. Niles will be furthering her education at Hudson Valley Community College, majoring in radiology.

Niles was a member of the National Honor Society. Rylie was also a captain of the soccer team. She has volunteere­d coaching a youth soccer team and participat­ed in other 4-H events to give back to her community. She is a scholar-athlete who played soccer and basketball.

Outside of school, Niles works at Southweste­rn Vermont Medical Center as a radiology staff assistant.

Rhiannon Lane is ranked eighth for the class of 2022. She will be continuing her education at The College of Saint Rose, majoring in Communicat­ion Sciences and Disorders. She has been accepted into their fiveyear accelerate­d program graduating with a combined bachelor’s and master’s degree. She hopes to be a speech and language therapist in an elementary school setting.

Lane has participat­ed in many extra-curricular activities including National Honor Society, chorus, drama club, soccer and band throughout her high school career.

Outside of school, Lane works as a dietary aide at the Center for Nursing and Rehabilita­tion in Hoosick Falls. Lane has volunteere­d at the food pantry and town clean up day through school and church involvemen­t. She has enjoyed volunteeri­ng as a counselor at summer camps and tutoring at school.

Lane is the daughter of Mike and Andrea Lane of Hoosick Falls. Older sister to Daniel Lane, also of Hoosick Falls. Lane is the granddaugh­ter of Rosemary Lane of Williamsto­wn, Mass., and Bernice and Myles Milch of Abington, Mass.

Ranked No. 9 in the Class of 2022, Potter has enrolled at Siena College in order to continue her education and pursue a major in Computer Science. She aspires to become a successful software engineer and extend her expertise into cybersecur­ity.

Her fascinatio­n with technology began with her love of science fiction and video games, which led her to take an interest in programmin­g.

In her spare time, Potter enjoys writing, studying languages, and helping others learn English. On weekends, she can also be found volunteeri­ng at Second Chance Animal Shelter.

Potter is the daughter of Robert Potter of Jamestown, R.I. and Silvia Potter of Prümzurlay, Germany.

Ranked No. 10 in the Class of 2022, Grenoble plans on attending SUNY Polytechni­c Institute to go on the path of an astronomer. In school, he participat­ed in soccer, wrestling, and track. He likes to read and participat­e in clubs such as skeet and trap shooting.
