YOUTH DRAMATIC ARTS PROGRAM: A unique summer Dramatic Arts Program for young people ages 7 — 12 is scheduled for July 6 — July 28 at The Paine Castle, located at 49 Second St. in Troy. The program will take place Monday-Friday (excluding holidays) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This class allows the dramatic exploration that can provide learners with an outlet for emotions, thoughts, and dreams that they might not otherwise have means to express. One can become another person, explore a new role, try out and experiment with various personal choices and solutions to problems from their own life, or challenges faced by characters in literature or historical figures. This will happen in a safe atmosphere, where actions and consequences can be examined, discussed, and in a very real sense experienced without the dangers and pitfalls that such experimentation would obviously lead to in the “real” world. Students will perform an original play for their parents on a historic Troy subject on the last day. Instructor Justyna Kostek, direct from New York City, will lead the program. Kostek was born and raised in Poland and began her work in experimental theater from a very young age. She went on to establish a successful award-winning theater company in Denmark. As the company’s artistic director, she has starred in and directed many of its highly acclaimed productions throughout Europe. She delivered many successful theater workshops to children 5 to 10 years old in Copenhagen. Soon after arriving in America, she co-directed sold out performances of George Kaufman’s Helen of Troy, NY in Troy, New York! In New York City she began performing in schools with the Polish Theater Institute, starring in the children’s show The Cheating Flea, and participated in numerous other New York City musicals, shows and events, including Bound to Rise and Mr. Chekhov & Mr. Porter both at Medicine Show Theatre, the oldest experimental theatre in New York City. During the last year she has taught theatre and public speaking to hundreds of students age 4 to 10 in a private school setting in Jersey City, New Jersey. Kostek is a producer, director, actor and writer of the highly acclaimed off-Broadway one woman show Dietrich Rides Again. Cost: $250 per week for four weeks ($100 discount for early registration by June 30). Contact 518378-9256 or justyna@justmoretheatre.com for more information.
