Ensemble Connect performing at Skidmore College
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » Young professional classical musicians will be at Skidmore College for a five-day residency starting Feb. 14, including a public performance at the Arthur Zankel Music Center, Helen Filene Ladd Concert Hall, at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 17.
The young musicians’ residency is happening as part of Ensemble Connect, a program of Carnegie Hall, the Juilliard School, and the Weill Music Institute in partnership with the New York City Department of Education. While in residence, the fellows of Ensemble Connect engage with Skidmore College students and the broader Saratoga Springs community, offering master classes, lessons, class demonstrations, and interactive performances.
The residency is presented by Skidmore’s Department of Music and Office of Special Programs and made possible through the generous support of David and Beverly Sanders Payne ’59 (October residency) and the AnnaMaria and Stephen Kellen Foundation (February residency).
The Feb. 17 concert is open to the public. Tickets are $15 for the general public; $8 for non-Skidmore students and seniors; and $5 for Skidmore students, faculty, and staff. To purchase tickets, visit the Arthur Zankel Music Center website: https://www.tix.com/ticket-sales/zankel/7074
During the concert, the Ensemble Connect fellows will perform the world premiere of “7 Kinships” by Michi Wiancko, commissioned by Carnegie Hall; quintets by Mozart and R. Schumann; and “Dark Wood” by Pulitzer Prize winner Jennifer Higdon. “Dark Wood” refers to the bassoon, used throughout the piece.
