Stephentown hosting road rally and roast beef dinner on Oct. 21
STEPHENTOWN, N.Y. » The Stephentown Historical Society invites the public to participate in their Road Challenge and the Volunteer Fire Department’s Roast Beef Dinner on Oct. 21.
The Road Challenge will be a scavenger hunt-style event that combines a quiz about the “only Stephentown on Earth” with a road rally for an enjoyable fortymile jaunt around town and a chance to earn a prize. Individuals or teams of two to five will follow clues to drive the route and complete the quiz to earn points. Ten extra points will be awarded per team for wearing or purchasing a SHS T-shirt on the day of the Challenge.
Registration can be done right up to the day of the event, either online using the link on the Stephentown Historical Society website, www.stephentown-historical.org, or in person at the Heritage Center (open Fridays from 1 to 4). The first 20 teams to preregister will earn a $10 gift certificate toward the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department Roast Beef Dinner that same day. The entry fees are $15 for an individual and $20 for a team. Three prizes will be awarded: $250, $100, and $50.
The Road Challenge starts at the Stephentown Heritage Center on Garfield Road (4 Staples Road) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21. The teams meet back there at 5 pm for apple cider and cider doughnuts and to determine the winners.
“What a great way to celebrate autumn and learn more about your community,” said Historical Society member Meredith Rhindress in a news release.
Concurrently, the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department’s annual Roast Beef Dinner will be from 4-7 p.m. at the fire hall, 35 Grange Hall Road. Dine-in and takeout options are both available. Adult admission is $20 (dinein and take-out), kids ages 6-10 are $10 (dine-in only), and kids 5 & under are free (dine-in only).
