Scoville joins Community Foundation board
SALISBURY >> Helen Ellsworth Scoville, RN, IBCLC, of Salisbury has been named to the board of directors of The Community Foundation of Northwest Connecticut, which provides philanthropic support to 20 towns in Litchfield County.
A native of Salisbury and a graduate of George Washington University with a degree in art history, Ms. Scoville was a member of the Board of Directors of the Diane Brown Gallery in Washington DC and New York for nearly a decade.
As a legislative aide to Representative Anthony (Toby) Moffett (D-Conn), she was involved with health and transportation issues. As the Area Coordinator for Africa for Amnesty International, she presented the organization’s concerns in Africa to Congress, the State Department and foreign embassies. From December 1983 to February 1984 she was Acting Director of the Washington Office.
As part of her involvement with the I Have a Dream Foundation, Ms. Scoville organized parent education events and a student program on sexuality and reproductive health issues. She was also a counselor with Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington.
Following her graduation from Marymount University with a degree in nursing in 2002, Ms. Scoville worked at the Family Centered Care Unit at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington DC. An international board certified lactation consultant, Scoville is employed at the birthing suites at Sharon Hospital in Sharon.
