Tournament benefits autism support group
The charity tournament will be held on Saturday, Aug. 13 at Fairview Farm Golf Course.
HARWINTON >> LARC is partnering with Torrington Area Families for Autism (TAFA) on the first annual “Tee it Up for Autism Charity Tournament”. The charity tournament will be held on Saturday, Aug. 13 at Fairview Farm Golf Course in Harwinton at 1:30 p.m. The tournament’s presenting sponsor is Bearingstar Insurance Charitable Fund.
The proceeds will benefit Torrington Area Families for Autism, a new local support group started by parents who know first-hand what it means to raise a child living with autism. The goal of TAFA is to create a group focused on autism advocacy, awareness and support. It is also a place where children with autism can participate in group activities, social outings, and integrated playgroups.
“This group offers local parents of children on the autism spectrum a muchneeded positive outlet to share experiences, offer advice and support, and learn from one another” said TAFA co-founder and parent Christina Augliera. “This group gives parents a collective voice in the community to advocate for local autism resources for our children, and the ability to bring greater awareness to the community. I firmly believe that creating awareness generates the accountability necessary to bring about positive changes, which is what we hope to accomplish in the Torrington area.”
The golf tournament will start at 1:30 p.m. and will include several contests throughout the 18-hole course. A buffet dinner will be served at 7 pm featuring raffle prizes and a cash bar. The fee is $140 per player (including dinner), or $45 for dinner only. As a partner, LARC will accept registrations at 314 Main Street, Torrington, or online at www.litchfieldarc.org. For more information, please call Christina Augliera at (860) 759-3043.
