Northwest CT YMCA offers training classes
TORRINGTON >> The Northwest CT YMCA will hold YMCA lifeguard training & ASHI CPR/AED and Basic First Aid training courses at its Torrington branch. The YMCA Lifeguard training course is a nationally recognized certification. As an American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI) Training Center we can ensure the quality of our courses and our ability to train lifeguards. The lifeguard course will take place over two weekends in September. Monthly CPR/AED and BFA training courses will be held on Saturdays. These will be a blended learning course that will have online, classroom and pool instruction.
The training schedule is as follows: CPR classes: Saturday Aug. 13 CPR/ AED and BFA, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; Saturday Oct. 15 CPR/AED and BFA 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; Saturday Nov. 19 CPR/AED and BFA 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; Saturday Dec. 17, CPR/AED and BFA 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Cost: Facility Member $80, Program Member $90, General Public $100 Lifeguarding classes: Sept. 9 7-9 p.m., Physical competencies (if no swim meet is scheduled) ; Sept. 10, 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 11 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 17, 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m., and Sunday Sept. 18, 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Cost: Facility member $275, Program Member $300, General Public $325.
The Lifeguard course is available to anyone over the age of 16.
Anyone interested can register at our membership services desk at the Torrington Y. The Lifeguard class has a limit size of 15 students, CPR/ AED and BFA has a class limit of 10. It is first come first served.
