LITCHFIELD >> Join the Litchfield Historical Society on Saturday, September 10 from 6:30-11 p.m. for the Barn Bash Fundraiser to benefit educational programs and the Tapping Reeve Landscape Project. The event will be held at The White Barn at South Farms in Morris.

The evening will feature cocktails, a buffet dinner, and an evening of jazz music from renowned vocalist Wanda Houston.

From Chicago, Houston began her performance career in her father’s theatre company Newer Still Productions and singing with her mother, brother and sister in the “Houston Singers”. She performed through grade school, high school and college where she received a BA in Vocal Performance with a concentration in Opera. Now living in New York City, Houston continues her love affair with theater and music recording, acting, singing wherever and whenever possible. More via http:// www.wandahouston.com.

Proceeds benefit the historical society’s education mission. The society sponsors an active and varied educational program for children, families, and adults. These include summer programs which allow children to explore daily life in early America, monthly book clubs, craft days, and more. The society’s adult programs include lectures, symposia, walking tours, craft workshops, and special museum tours.

A special silent auction will benefit the Tapping Reeve Landscape project. With the help of Landscape Architect Lauren Richardson, the Society has re-imagined the six acre Tapping Reeve site, not as a strict interpretation of a time period, but rather as a community resource with landscape elements that would have been found on the site, and in Litchfield, from the 18th to the 20th centuries. The project will use elements of the historic landscape as an educational tool and includes a children’s garden, education pavilion, small orchard, a chestnut grove, a wet meadow, stone walls and traditional fencing. The society has designed the project to provide the community and visitors with opportunities for learning, relaxation and reflection.
