Class of 2016 is largest in school’s history

-

LITCHFIELD » Forman School graduated 66 students, the largest class in school history, on Saturday, May 28 at the school’s annual commencement exercises. The Manchester Pipe Band led the traditional academic processional on the bagpipes. Faculty members followed and then new Forman graduates walked their seats next to the historic Graduation Tree on The Green.

Reverend Robert F. Tucker of St. Anthony of Padua in Litchfield called the ceremony to order with an invocation. Head of School Adam K. Man then welcomed the many guests and congratulated the seniors, turning the podium over to graduation speaker Nick Kraus ’89. Kraus is a cofounder of the Soldier Ride and the Wounded Warrior Project, as well as a partner at the legendary music venue, Stephen Talkhouse. He spoke about his journey at Forman School, and how it laid the foundation for a successful career and life, providing him a well-rounded education that gave him skills he could use for the rest of his life. He also pointed out the importance of continuing to learn and grow at any age, and to keep asking, “What’s next for me?”

Class President Collin Barrett ’16 gave the senior speech, and encouraged his peers to “learn from every single person you meet.” This was followed by a performance of John Mayer’s “Waiting on the World to Change” by the Senior Ensemble.

Administrators and department chairs led the awards and presented each recipient with a specially engraved pewter cup. Many of the awards are in honor of past faculty members and alumni who made a great impact on the School and helped make it what it is today.

Finally, Director of Studies Jamie Dwan and President of the Board of Trustees Louise Hoppe Finnerty P’11 conducted the conferring of the diplomas. Cheers rang out from the newly minted alumni as well as their proud teachers, families, and friends.
