Charles Hartley Connell, 100, died Wednesday, August 24, 2016 in his home. He was the beloved husband of 60 years of the late Barbara (Allen) Connell. Mr. Connell was born in Torrington on October 17, 1915, son of the late Charles and Beatrice (Carr) Connell, and had been a lifelong city resident. He was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran serving in medical supplies as a pharmacist’s mate. Mr. Connell was a retired 20 year co-owner of the Ajax Manufactur­ing Company. He was a devoted member of Advent Christian Church, serving as an Elder and Superinten­dent of the Sunday School. Mr. Connell was a member of the American Legion, AARP, and enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling, Boston Red Sox baseball, UConn Women’s basketball, and being outdoors. In his earlier years, he was proudly involved in Scouting, and had been a member of the Tunxis Council. Survivors include a son, Hartley B. Connell and his wife Elinor of Torrington, two daughters, Candyce Richard and her husband Gary, and Sheila Allen, all of Torrington, eight grandchild­ren, thirteen greatgrand­children, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 29, 2016 at 10:30a.m. at Advent Christian Church, 217 New Harwinton Rd., Torrington. Burial with full military honors will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Torrington. Friends may call Monday morning from 10:00a.m. to 10:30a.m. at Advent Christian Church.
