Parishioners to celebrate project’s completion
TORRINGTON >> Trinity Episcopal Church will celebrate the completion of the roof replacement on their sanctuary on Sunday, Oct. 2, with a champagne brunch. The celebration will follow an abbreviated Choral Eucharist at 9 a.m.
The parish conducted a capital campaign, “Reaching Up to the Roof and Out to Our Neighbors”, to raise the funds necessary for the roof replacement and other plans. In addition to the roof, other projects completed thus far include drainage repair, water incursion remediation, security improvements, exterior trim repair and painting, access ramp reconstruction and plaster repair. Repairs and restoration of stained glass windows is ongoing.
Located at 220 Prospect Street, the existing Trinity Episcopal Church was built in 1898, with the Parish House added in 1909 and Rectory building in 1919. The church boasts a clock tower which dominates Torrington’s downtown and a bell which chimes the hours. The clock tower was restored through a community campaign in 2013.
Trinity’s Priest-in-Charge Ann Lovejoy Johnson said of the celebration, “It is important that we gather together with joy and thanks to mark this incredible accomplishment. It just proves that this Parish, together with this community, can do anything they set their mind to. And what a wonderful reason to have cake for breakfast!”
