Nonprofit seeks input on Main Street Marketplace

-

TORRINGTON >> Main Street Torrington Inc., the nonprofit in charge of running the annual Main Street Marketplace in downtown Torrington, will seek input from the community on next year’s iteration of the annual summer event in an upcoming public meeting.

The meeting is scheduled to be held on Monday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. in the Performance Hub at 45

Main Street in Torrington, according to a press release from MST Board President Kris Roberts.

“Folks are still talking about how excellent MSMP was this past summer!” Roberts wrote. “We are already working on improvements for next year.”

This year’s Marketplace, which ran on Thursdays from July 21 to Aug. 18, drew an average of more than 3,000 people per week, Roberts said.

Goals for next year’s events include adding more activities for young children and the return attractions including the train that ferried visitors up and down the street and the weekly Grand Marshals.

“The planning meeting, will allow members of the community a chance to volunteer, voice their opinions, and help raise funds,” wrote MST officials in the release. “Vendors, sponsors, businesses, residents, and anyone who wants to be involved is encouraged to attend.”

Main Street Torrington took over administration of the annual event from the city in January, announcing at the time that it would return to Main Street from its previous location on Franklin Street.

Main Street Torrington members want to fine-tune the event for 2017.

“We spent so much time this year getting our infrastructure in place,” said Roberts. “Now we can concentrate on making it a better experience for attendees.”
