‘Themes and Variations’ on the organ
LITCHFIELD: Organist James F. Bush will offer a recital of “Themes and Variations,” featuring works of Mendelssohn, Bach, the brilliant 20th century French composer Jehan Alain and others. Each work is based on an established theme–a Gregorian chant, a Renaissance song, a German chorale–and develops the theme in a unique way. The concert will be held Sunday, Nov. 6 at 4 p.m. Bush is an accomplished organist, pianist and harpsichordist, and currently serves as organist for St. Michael’s Parish. He studied organ and harpsichord as an undergraduate at The College of William & Mary in Virginia under James S. Darling, organist and choirmaster of Bruton Parish Church, the 300-year-old Episcopal church in Colonial Williamsburg. Mr. Bush has played at churches in Virginia, New York and Connecticut and has given numerous recitals, including several as part of the concert series at Bruton Parish Church.
