2 men arrested after police find drugs, explosives

WINSTED >> Two men are facing charges after police say they found both drugs and explosives in a local home this week.

Antonio Cressotti, 27, of 53 Park Place East, Winsted, was arrested and charged with possession of explosives, possession of a hallucinog­enic, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of drug parapherna­lia, possession of drugs and parapherna­lia with 1,500 feet of a school.

Austin Marek, 20, of Robin Drive, Barkhamste­d, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of drug parapherna­lia.

Police said the were at Cressotti’s home to assist adult probation officers just before 8 p.m. on Wednesday. When they approached the home, they saw Marek directly in front of the entrance of the home. He was wearing a hooded sweatshirt with a front pocket, and police saw a clear plastic bag with a green leafy substance in his pocket, police said in a written statement.

Marek was searched and a plastic bag containing four smaller bags of marijuana was removed from his front sweatshirt pocket along with a marijuana grinder, according to police. He was taken into custody and taken to the Winchester Police Department.

The green leafy substance tested positive for marijuana and with packaging weighed 0.98 ounces, police said.

Marek was released on a $1,000 non-surety bond and is due in Bantam Superior Court on Nov. 7.

Police continued to accompany adult probation officers to an apartment above the garage. The probation officers did a routine search of the premises and found 1.775 ounces of marijuana, mushrooms, drug parapherna­lia, large sums of cash, marijuana lollipops and marijuana mixed with alcohol, according to the release.

Eight M-100 explosives and nine M-1000 explosives were also found in apartment, police said.

Antonio Cressotti was taken to the station for processing. He was released on a $5,000 surety bond and is also scheduled to appear in Bantam Superior Court on Nov. 7.
