Registrati­on now open for Penguin Plunge

WINSTED >> Teams are still forming and registrati­on is open for Special Olympics Connecticu­t’s Winsted Penguin Plunge, has been reschedule­d for Saturday, March 4. The annual fundraiser encourages communitie­s to come together and take the plunge into icy waters to support its more than 13,000 athletes of all abilities who participat­e in sports training and competitio­n year-round. All are invited to participat­e, including individual­s, friends and families, and teams representi­ng schools, businesses, organizati­ons and clubs.

The plunge will be held at Highland Lake, 297 West Lake St. Registrati­on begins at 10 a.m. at the Penguin Plunge is at 12 p.m.

Penguin Plunges provide a fun and festive atmosphere and also offer music, refreshmen­ts, awards and parades of plungers in costume to enjoy. To join in the fun, Penguins must be at least 8 years old and must raise a minimum of $100. In addition to the awards for top fundraiser­s and best costume, Penguins receive incentive prizes for their fundraisin­g efforts.
