TORRINGTON >> Jim Lamoin resigned from the Torrington Board of Education this week, citing concerns about changes in his professional life and a desire to focus more on his family.

Lamoin, whose term runs through Dec. 4, submitted a letter of resignation to board Chairman Fiona Cappabianca and Democratic Town Committee Chairman Danielle Palladino Monday night.

“It is with great disappointment that I must resign my position on the Torrington Board of Education. During the past three years many great things have been accomplished, and I know many more are still to come,” wrote Lamoin. “As with many companies, the company I work for seems to be planning for major growth, which will be reflected as substantial changes in size and geography. As a result, my job could be relocated to another state. Since I plan to remain in state, I have decided that I must now shift the time I spend on board activities to focusing on what is best for my family.”

According to his biography on the Board of Education website, Lamoin has been employed by Berkshire Hathaway Home Services New England Properties since 2011, and “is responsible for all technology activities for the company.” He is also active in the Special Olympics and the United Way.

Andrew Nargi resigned from his seat on the Torrington Board of Education in March 2016. He was replaced by Armand Maniccia Jr. The board will now look for a candidate to fill Lamoin’s remaining term.
