TORRINGTON >> Torrington CAFTA’s “Cineteque Theater will host special guest filmmaker and actor Jonah Spears and surprise guests during the weekly Friday Film Forum on Friday, March 3. CAFTA’s evening with the filmmakers of “We Are The Hartmans,” a 2011 film starring Richard Chamberlain, will feature the full length presentation of the film with a discussion with refreshments immediately following the film.

According to film sources, “We Are The Hartmans” started as a small community project. when a group of theater and film makers met at a workshop and decided to make a film together.

“We thought it would be a 10 minute short with a zero budget but six months later, we had a first draft of a feature film and we raised enough money to move towards production,” said Jonah Spear, one of the stars of the film. “We were incredibly lucky to employ dozens of people for several weeks in and around New York city that summer — all to tell a story about the triumph of local activism over faceless and big business interests. This is the type of movie that could be produced in

and around Torrington with a combination of a good story idea, veteran and emerging filmmakers, a lot of faith.”

Spear said, “This film is a kind of roadmap and, hopefully, an inspiration to come together, declare our values, and stand up for what’s right. So if this story inspires you to take action, and you do — whether that’s making the film you want to make, or going to work for social and economic justice, or for any cause you believe in, that’s all the better. It’s hard to know how to inspire people to action. Film is just one way — and coming together around it is certainly powerful. So I’m grateful to be a part and looking forward to being with all of you.”

More insights will be forthcoming during the discussions when CAFTA presents “We Are The Hartmans.” Doors open at 6 p.m. for a meet and greet with the stars at CAFTA Cineteque Theater, at 100 Prospect St., Torrington.

The movie will start promptly at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $5. To keep ticket costs down, attendees are encouraged to contribute something to eat or drink to share. For more information, email cafta.usa@gmail.com, call 860 201-5706 or go to www. cafa.info.
