Don’t miss ‘The Drowsy Chaperone’ March 16-18

- Story contributed by the Housatonic Musical Theatre Society.

FALLS VILLAGE >> The Housatonic Musical Theatre Society presents the The Drowsy Chaperone for one weekend only at the Housatonic Valley Regional High School. Performances are Thursday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 17 at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, March 18 at 2 p.m. and at 7:30 p.m.

Winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Book and Best Original Score, hailed by New York Magazine as “The Perfect Broadway Musical”, The Drowsy Chaperone begins with a man in a chair who puts on his favorite record: the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical. His recording comes to life with the story of two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not-so-bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan, an intoxicated chaperone and more.

Produced by Lori Belter with direction and music direction by Michael Berkeley, choreography by Amber Cameron, and with stellar performances by the students of the Housatonic Valley Regional High School, the audience is in for an evening of madcap delight.

General seating tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students, children, and seniors. $5 Balcony Tickets available at the door on Friday only. Purchase general seating by credit card online at www.HMTS.org (up to two hours prior to each performance) or purchase by cash or check at the Salisbury General Store & Pharmacy, the Sharon Pharmacy, the Kent Station Pharmacy, from an HVRHS performer, or at the door.

“The Drowsy Chaperone is one of my favorite musicals,” Belter said. “Our students, as always, rise to the occasion and this show promises to measure up to the high standard we’ve set at the school for producing as professional a show as is possible.”

“It’s exhilarating to see how enthusiastically the cast handles this funny, smart, and fast-paced musical and they are sure to wow the audience with their versatility,” Berkeley said.

Production support was generated from the proceeds of the 2016 Kitchen Tour. The fundraising tour was possible due to the generosity of the homeowners, many local businesses providing food and gifts, and by the 2016 sponsors: Belter Builders, Best & Cavallaro Real Estate, Churchill Building Company, Ed Herrington, Inc., Elyse Harney Real Estate, LLC, Lindell Fuels, Inc., Mountainside, Northeast Radiology, Salisbury Bank and Trust Company, Sharon Hospital, Torrington Savings Bank, and William Perotti & Sons, Inc.

As always, HMTS thanks HVRHS and the community at large for their enormous support of both the kitchen tours and the spring productions.
