HARTFORD >> Lust, power and greed – how far would you go to get what you want? Find out when the Hartford Symphony Orchestra presents A Faust Symphony Friday, March 10 through Sunday, March 12 in the Belding Theater at The Bushnell in Hartford. This new adaptation will be performed by dynamic actors (to be announced) and the HSO, with artistic direction by TheaterWorks’ Eric Ort and script by WNPR’s Colin McEnroe. HSO Music Director Carolyn Kuan will conduct. A theater educator, he most recently taught at Brooklyn College and before that was, for many years, the director of theater at Miss Porter’s School. His work in the literary office of The Vineyard Theater (New York) nurtured a commitment to new play development that continues in his role at TheaterWorks.
Combining his interest in history, documentary drama and community engagement, Ort was part of the creative team for a multi-media performance piece Assembly Required that was presented at the Brooklyn Museum in 2015. Through video, audio and live performance, the piece examined the community of roller-skaters at the Central Park Skate Circle.
Colin McEnroe hosts the daily WNPR show, The Colin McEnroe Show. He is a weekly columnist for The Hartford Courant. He has been a contributing editor at many national publications including Mirabella, Men’s Health, Mademoiselle and Best Life. He has recently concluded a series of columns for Bicycling magazine and contributes to Salon.
He is returning to the HSO after collaborating with Carolyn Kuan on two previous Talcott Mountain Music Festival programs and hosting a series on Copland, Bernstein and Gershwin in 2008-2009.
In 2016, The Colin McEnroe Show won First Place in the Public Radio News Directors competition for Best Interview. He also co-hosts, with John Dankosky, the Wheelhouse, a weekly political roundtable.
His humor writing is included in several anthologies including The McSweeney’s Joke Book of Jokes, The Big Book of New American Humor and Flash Fiction Funny.
He is the author of three books – a memoir and two collections of his humor published by Doubleday -- and one play produced at Ivoryton; and his work has appeared on the New York Times Op-Ed Page, in Cosmopolitan and Forbes FYI. He frequently moderates the Connecticut Forum and teaches media studies at Trinity College.
