Show celebrates women’s history
WASHINGTON >> In recognition of Women’s History Month, Patty Carver will present her award winning one-woman musical performance about famous historical American women on Thursday, March 23 at 6:30 p.m. This special program is generously sponsored by the Judea Chapter of the National Society of the DAR and will be held in the Wykeham Room of Gunn Memorial Library in Washington.
The performance, This Old Hat, Patriots of Liberty, brings to life women in history who helped shape this great country. Entertaining, educational and historically correct, the performance combines music, dialogue and song.
Women portrayed include Betsy Ross who tells her unique story about the first American Flag, Deborah Sampson who disguised herself as a man in order to fight in the American Revolution; Elizabeth Cady Stanton speaks of the Women’s Suffrage Movement and her contemporary Harriet Tubman; and Amelia Earhart will tell of her solo flight across the Atlantic. The characters speak directly to the audience and there is some audience participation.
Carver is a professional singer, actress, and writer who has performed in New York, Los Angeles, and London. She has appeared across the country in Regional, Stock and Dinner Theater. Patty is co-founder and Artistic Director of the professional national touring company Connecticut Children’s Theater. For more information visit www.pattycarver.com The Judea Chapter of the DAR, organized in 1898, remains a small chapter enthusiastically celebrating their rich and colorful history derived from a town which bears the name of the Revolutionary War General who became the first President of the United States, George Washington. The chapter works to perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men and women who fought for the independence of our nation and to enlighten the public to foster patriotic citizenship.
