Demand simple fairness in financing defense

- — Alan DiCara, Winsted

The following letter was recently sent to Sen. Chris Murphy. Dear Senator Murphy: Did you get any emails from Americans about why Europeans should not expect any apologies from us? If not, see what my veteran and senior citizen friends have put together on page one of publicinterestnewsnetwork.com. Thanks for sharing this with others in Congress.

Thanks for your overdone email describing how you all criticized our president behind his back to our European “allies” who pay almost nothing for NATO, some 60-plus years after WWII. Even CNN (yes, CNN!) knows what President Trump wants.

See: “Which NATO members are falling short on military spending?” at money.cnn.com/2016/04/15/news/natospending-countries

Time for Congress to tell NATO to ante up 60-plus years after we saved Europe from Hitler, and after spending trillions more since WWII. No wonder our budgets do not balance!

Americans do like Trump and voted for him, because we know he understands there has been no investment in Americans for decades, resulting in a weakened economy, a weak nation and a weak and clueless Congress.

Here in Winsted, our Main Street was destroyed in 1955, and our factories have long since closed after you all passed and/or failed to fix NAFTA and WTO. It’s time for Congress to impose higher user fees on our NATO partners, instead of dissing President Trump, who deserves your support as the American people do.

Hint: Read President Trump’s “The Art of the Deal.” He just wants a better deal for all Americans from our allies in Europe and Asia and Congress must stop playing world cop and not charge anything for it.

Impose higher user fees, Senator. Get us better trade deals and end lopsided, unfair trade and defense deals you all expect Americans to continue accepting.

We’ll never have the better education and health care systems nor decent personal savings if Congress insists on undermining our right-on President Trump overseas. Cut President Trump and us some slack and demand simple fairness in financing defense and in amending our trade agreements now.
