Dead baby found in bag at reservoir
Major Crime detectives are investigating
HARWINTON >> Connecticut State Police are investigating the death of a baby whose body was found Tuesday in a local reservoir, officials said.
Troopers from Troop L in Litchfield were notified Tuesday morning that a deceased baby had been found in a bag in Bristol Reservoir No. 4 on Route 72, which is maintained by the Bristol Water Department, according to an email from Trooper First Class Kelly Grant.
Western District Major Crime unit detectives responded to the scene and are investigating the
matter, Grant said.
“The Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) will conduct a post-mortem examination to determine cause and manner of death,” Grant said. “The City of Bristol Water Department has consulted with the Connecticut Department of Health. The reservoir has not been used in a few days, and will remain offline.
The City of Bristol Water Department stresses that the public water supply is safe and they have no further concern for the safety of the public water supply.”
Route 72 in Harwinton was closed between Locust Road and Blueberry Hill Tuesday afternoon while police investigated, according to the state Department of Transportation. That road has since reopened.
State police said around 3:30 p.m. that a dive team was responding to the reservoir to assist Western District Major Crime. The dive team will conduct a search for possible evidence, Grant said.
