TORRINGTON >> A second “super load” was expected to travel through the city of Torrington Tuesday evening, according to a release from the Torrington Police Department.

“As of this afternoon, the super load is planned to come off of Route 8 south between approximately 10 p.m. and midnight at exit 46/Pinewoods Rd.,” police said in the release, which was sent out Tuesday afternoon.

“We would encourage all motorists to avoid this area beginning at 9 p.m. this evening. No traffic will be allowed in this area during the movement of this load.”

The truck bearing the “super load” will then be parked in the parking lot of the Burrville firehouse Wednesday, then continue on Wednesday night.

Six such “super loads” — shipments bearing equipment for a natural gas power plant in Oxford — are scheduled to make their way through the city.

The first spent the day in the city earlier this month.

Photos of the “super load” and the truck bearing it are available through The Register Citizen Media Center.

This second “super load” is scheduled to move through Thomaston on Thursday evening, according to the Thomaston Police Department. “The Super Load is a 200 foot long over sized trailer weighing between 1 Million and 1.5 Million pounds (500-750 Tons) and takes up the majority of the roadway with a maximum speed of 3-4 miles per hour,” wrote the department in a Facebook post.
