TORRINGTON >> A city man is facing charges after causing a disturbance and threatening harm to his parents, police said.

Michael Gryniuk, 49, of Louis Circle, Torrington, was arrested March 18 and charged with seconddegree breach of peace and second-degree threatening.

Police were dispatched to a local home at approximately 6:15 p.m. on March 18 for a reported active disturbance between a man, later identified as Michael Gryniuk, and his parents, according to a probable cause report.

When an officer arrived at the scene, Gryniuk was outside by the side door, according to the report.

“I noticed the door handle had been ripped off and I observed Victim 1 and Victim 2 hiding behind the interior door in fear,” police wrote in the report. “I escorted Michael away from the entry door where he was detained in cuffs and (checked) for weapons.”

According to police, “he became hostile towards officers on scene” while being arrested and “was uncooperative during the booking process.”

Gryniuk told police he was irate because his parents slapped him, took his money and locked him out of the home, according to the report. One of the victims told police Gryniuk had been yelling and swearing “while slamming his fists on the glass door and attempting to force his way into the residence,” police said.

“Michael made several threatening statements which included, ‘I’m going to cut your fingers off and shove them down your throat’ and ‘When I get in there I’m going to take you out,’ all while trying to force his way into the residence,” police said.

The victims told police that this sort of incident had been an ongoing concern, most notably when Gryniuk was “intoxicated or under the influence of narcotics,” and that “due to his size and strength, they were scared for their safety,” according to the report.

“They both also claim that Michael has anger issues and possible mental health issues but has always refused to get evaluated,” the officer wrote in the report.

Gryniuk was held in lieu of $5,000 bail and scheduled to appear in Bantam Superior Court on March 20. He has not yet entered a plea to either charge, according to state judicial records, and is next scheduled to appear in court on April 20.
