RIVERTON FISHING DERBY: Riverton’s annual fishing derby will be held Saturday, April 8 on the West branch of the Farmington River — beginning with a pancake breakfast at 4 a.m. at the Riverton Fire Department and punctuated by the derby and the awarding of prizes. The derby, which is open to the public, begins at 6 a.m. at the sound of a bell and ends at 10 a.m. Contestant­s bring their catches to the Riverton Fire Department for the official weigh-in. FUNDRAISER: Joseph’s House, a community outreach organizati­on on Water Street, Torrington, is holding a dinner and raffle fundraiser on Saturday, April 8, 4-6 p.m. at St. Paul’s Church, 837 Charles St., Torrington. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door for adults, $6 in advance or $7 at the door for 11 and under. Raffle tickets for baskets and prizes will be sold at the dinner. Dinner includes a chicken piccata dinner and entry for a door prize.
