Winners listed for Members I show
KENT >> The Kent Art Association’s Members I show which runs through April 16 showcased a group of member artists, from emerging to professional.
During a recent reception for the artists at the association gallery, president Connie Horton presented six member artists with an Award of Excellence chosen by show judges Michael Spross and Julie Hopkins.
The winners were “Winter Birches” a watercolor by Mary Ann Carley from Sharon; a pastel, “Sharon Bog” by Theresa Kenney of Sharon; “Ambivalant #1” a photograph by Jeffrey Kellner of Kent; “At the Crossroads” a pastel by Clayton Buchanan of Newburgh, N.Y.; “Getting Ready for the Fair” a pencil drawing by Kip Miller of Poughkeepsie, NY; and “Rock Bottom” an acrylic by Keith Davidison of South Egermont, MA. The paintings were sold at a silent auction to raise funds for the association at a gala reception on April 23.
The next show is a special retrospective exhibit: “Barbara Goodspeed, A Celebration of a Life in Art.” The exhibit will feature 75 works on paper and canvas donated by the estate of the late Sherman resident and artist, Barbara Goodspeed, who during the 1980s and 90s served six terms as association president. The retrospective runs through May 14 and is open during regular gallery hours.
Association president and retired art instructor Connie Horton is offering a three-day workshop, May 8-10, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., titled “Color — Drama.” The workshop will cover all aspects of using color to enhance drama in a painting.
