Man charged in robberies pleads not guilty
LITCHFIELD >> Michael Harris, an Ansonia man accused of at least eight robberies statewide, including in Torrington and Winsted, pleaded not guilty to a series of charges in Litchfield Superior Court Tuesday.
Harris, 29, was arrested in March and charged with first-degree robbery and sixth-degree larceny in connection with a Dec. 22 robbery in Shelton.
During the same time frame, armed robberies occurred in Torrington, Middlebury, Winsted, Southington, Derby, Naugatuck and Milford with the same suspect description and method, according to Shelton police. A joint effort between the police departments led to Harris as a suspect and he is facing charges in several of the robberies, police said.
Harris was scheduled to appear in Litchfield Superior Court with regard to two counts of first-degree robbery as well as three counts of sixth-degree larceny, third-degree robbery and first-degree threatening.
According to state judicial records, one of the firstdegree robbery charges was issued in connection with a Dec. 3 incident that led to an arrest by Torrington police, while another was issued in connection with a Nov. 20 incident that led to an arrest by Winsted police.
An attorney entered a plea of not guilty on Harris’ behalf Tuesday. Harris was unable to appear in court as he is presently incarcerated.
Harris’ case was continued until May 26.
