FANCHER, PAULINE E.

FANCHER – Pauline E. Fancher, 106, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 28, 2017. Born August 7, 1910 in Winsted; the daughter of the late William S. Fancher and Edythe L. (Moses) Fancher. Pauline graduated from Pratt Institute of Art with a degree in Art Education. She then achieved her Bachelor’s Degree in Art from The University of New Hampshire and her Education courses from Penn State. She taught at Plainville High School, Concord NH Junior High, Laconia High School in NH and a school in Harrison, NY. She then travelled to England for a year as an Exchange Teacher and then returned to Winsted and taught at Winsted Elementary schools from 1954and 1975. She enjoyed photography, woodcarving painting. She also taught Sunday school and was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in NY, the First Church of Winsted and Winchester Center Congregational Church. She was a lifelong member of the D.A.R. Greenwoods Chapter and served as Regent for approx. 17 years, as well as a member of the Winchester Historical Society, the Beardsley Library and the Winsted Health Center Foundation. She is survived by two brothers, Donald A. Fancher and Robert W. Fancher, both of Winsted; a sister, Shirley Lemere of SC; and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, great grand nieces and great grand nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Russell, Hollis, and Bernard Fancher and two sisters, Carolyn Hodge and Mildred Barshaw. Friends may call on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street, Winsted from 12 – 2 PM. Burial will follow at Winchester Center Cemetery, Winchester Center. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Winchester Center Congregational Church at 2 PM.
