FOOTLOOSE: The Torrington High School Student Theatre is presenting the musical Footloose in the THS Little Theatre at 7 p.m. on May 4, 5, 6 at 7 p.m. The show is directed by Brendan Eckert and Veronica Gelormino, with musical direction by Brittany Rondeau. The set-design is by Victor Leger and the show is produced by Sybil Chamberlin. Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for adults and can be purchased in advance by emailing schamberlin@torrington.org or at the door the night of the performances. MAKE ICE CREAM: Making Ice Cream In a Bag will be held Thursday, May 4, 4:15 p.m. at the Harwinton Public Library, for age 7 and up. DAY OF PRAYER: The National Day of Prayer will take place this year in the auditorium of Torrington’s City Hall on May 4, 7-8:30 p.m. The event, established in public law by President Truman in 1952, celebrates its 66th Annual National Day of Prayer. The theme is For Your Great Name’s Sake, and is based upon scripture from Daniel 9:19. Across the Nation millions of people will take time to intercede on behalf of their communities, nations and leaders. All are welcome. GRANGE MEETING: Riverton Grange members will at 7:30 p.m. at the grange hall on Route 20. After the regular meeting, the Committee on Women’s Activities will present a program. The cookie contest will take place at this time with winners announced during the program. Members are reminded that non-perishable food items are still needed for the food banks in our area. KENTUCKY DERBY PARTY: The Torrington Democratic Town Committee will hold its Second Annual Kentucky Derby Party on Saturday May 6 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the home of Keri and Chris Hoehne located at 603 New Harwinton Road in Torrington. The party is open to all Democrats and will feature authentic Derby fare and drink including Mint Juleps. Don’t forget your Derby attire and hat. MOSAIC TRIO CONCERT: The Mosaic Trio and Friends will appear in concert on Saturday May 6, 5 p.m. in Norfolk’s Battell Chapel, performing below a restored Maitland Armstrong stained glass window. The trio features Lu Sun on violin, Pat Daly Vance on viola, and Peter Zay on cello, joined by special guests Curt Blood on clarinet for the Mozart Clarinet Quintet and Curtis Macomber on violin for the Schubert String Quintet. The performance is underwritten through a grant to the Battell Arts Foundation. Ticket proceeds will benefit the Battell Chapel Windows Project. This will be the first scheduled event with the newly restored window on display. SPRING POWER-UP: The Connecticut Antique Machinery Association’s annual Spring Power-Up will be held Saturday and Sunday, May 6-7, 7 a.m.-4 p.m. at the museum grounds, 31 Kent-Cornwall Road, Kent, next to the Eric Sloane Museum, a mile north of Kent Center. Giant steam engines, a steam locomotive, gas engines, farm tractors: CAMA’s collection of steam and gas powered machinery will be in full operation on this day.
