TORRINGTON >> A city woman was recently arrested after she refused to comply with the commands of officers, according to Torrington police, and kicked an officer.

April L. Macleod, 29, of 82 Lorenzo Street, second-floor apartment, Torrington, was arrested May 3 and charged with second-degree breach of peace.

Two officers were dispatched just after 4 p.m., according to a probable cause report, for a report of a suicidal woman.

“April Macleod... called Litchfield County Dispatch and reported she was suicidal and wanted help. I located Macleod on Alice Street near Lorenzo Street and as soon as she saw me took off south on Lorenzo Street. Sergeant Maiga arrived and blocked Macleod’s path,” wrote Officer Giordano of the Torrington police in a probable cause report. “Macleod was immediately irate and refused to comply with any verbal commands.”

The officers attempted to place Macleod in handcuffs, according to the report, and eventually succeeded in “(getting) her on the ground and secure,” at which time a third officer, Officer Hoye, arrived on scene.

She struggled and attempted to pull away during this period, according to the report.

“I briefly stepped away to attempt to get my cruiser closer to the scene for Macleod to be transported to the hospital,” wrote Giordano. “Macleod began kicking violently and she kicked Officer Hoye in the left side of his head with her right foot.”

Hoye was not injured by the kick, according to the report.

“A witness in the area reported hearing Macleod screaming loudly and was able to see Macleod being aggressive with police and not listening to commands,” wrote Giordano. “The witness reported being very alarmed and concerned by the actions of Macleod.”

Macleod was released on a $5,000 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear in Bantam Superior Court on May 12, according to the report. No one by that name appeared in state judicial records as of Friday evening.
