Resident facing more sex assault charges

- By Register Citizen Staff

>> A Torrington man previously arrested and charged with first-degree sexual assault has been charged with two more counts in another case.

Jose R. Martinez was arrested April 25, according to state judicial records.

He was previously arrested on April 7 and charged with first-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to a minor with sexual contact and first-degree unlawful restraint.

According to an affidavit regarding the April 25 arrest, police determined, in the course of investigating the matter that led to the April 7 arrest, that Martinez had allegedly sexually assaulted another juvenile in Torrington, prompting a second investigation.

The latter juvenile, identified as “Juvenile A” in the affidavit, said during an interview at the Center for Youth and Families that Martinez had forced her to perform oral sex on two occasions when she was between second and fourth grade, according to police.

Martinez has pleaded not guilty to all four charges issued in connection with the case, according to state records, as well as the three issued in connection with the other.

Martinez was held on $150,000 bond in connection with this case, and $300,000 in connection with the other.

He is scheduled to appear in court May 26.
